Any Pre-Meds converted to Pre-Dent?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm considering switching to med...

lol j/k

Why classify? I guess you can say I have been everything. Pre-teen, pre-engineering, pre-med, pre-porsche and hopefully pre-ferrari.

Shadow both. See what YOU like.

Why do people switch?

Owning your own business and the benefits that come along, hiring staff, location, you're not dictated by a hospital. ... I enjoy the artistic aspects along with using my hands in dentistry. However, you can also use your hands in medicine.

Here. I wanted to be a physician all during my senior year. Until summer started, and I considered dentistry.

On the plus side, I'll never have to endure the premed route because I haven't started college yet. 😀

Then again, predent is a whole other story...

i switched to predent, right as i submitted my primary app for med school.

withdrew and applied to dental schools instead. very happy w/ the decision.

I just made the switch from pre-med to predent and already feel so much happier😀. After months of researching medicine and getting more and more tense/anxious-I came to my senses. 😍

I switched from premed to predent .. Very glad I did.

I did so because I feel that being a dentist has more pro's than con's...

Like being able to have a some what normal schedule.. 9 to 5.

And, being able to pretty much be my OWN boss, being able to hire staff, own my own business ect.

Plus, Im not too sure id be able to handle somebody coming into a hospital with blood spilling out of there eyes.. with death right around the corner.

Dental is def for me!

From Med School to Pre-dent! Checkmate lol...

I did the same thing! Looking back, I cringe at not only the money I lost paying for last years app cycle (primary apps only), but also at the time I will never get back while studying for the MCAT. Oh well! I am just glad that I wasn't in med school before I realized how jealous I was of dental students 🙂

Hey, if you take the MCAT and decide you'd rather be a dentist, check out this program at Case. Looks pretty sweet (and highly competitive, no doubt). 5 year MD/DMD, and you don't have to take the DAT unless you want to...

I KNOW!!!

$900 for the application.

wasted. 🙁

and not to mention i have 29384729 MCAT prep books just sitting on my shelf.

i switched from pre pharm to predent right as i was about to apply and after working as a tech for about a yr and a half

I pulled on of these and it ended up being the best decision for me. Having done a ton of volunteering in a hospital and private practice, I was turned off by the hurried aspect of medicine. In addition, I didn't like the idea of excuse me, being someone's b**** for another four years after school if I didn't want to be. Being able to move right into practice seemed a lot more exciting, and the fact that you're basically performing small works of art that can influence a person's life isn't bad either 🙂 Hope this helps.
