How well did you think UCI's bio major prepared you for undergrad studies? I've heard that our biochem was not too great and our classes are not too indepth. Obviously everything is going to seem like a drop in the bucket compared to medical school. But a good background always helps.

I majored in Bio Sci at UCI and it prepared me decently....

But when you get to med school, all the classes can seem a bit daunting - sometimes to the point where you feel like you're learning this stuff for the first time!

I actually got better grades in med school than in undergrad. But part of that was learning how to study better, as well as not having as many distractions.

Biochem is biochem -binge and purge so it almost doesn't matter how good the class is.
Some other good classes to take though, are physiology (not anatomy), immunology and microbiology
