Just curious, as I've been told that this usually doesn't begin until April/May. Makes it kind of hard to plan a move if you're waiting on waitlists.

The waiting game for the waiting list is definitely hard to bear. I'm currently on DMU's waitlist and they said it won't move until april/may until they are finish with interviews. what's worse is that a person on the waitlist might be moved up a fews days before orientation. This is probably my worse case scenario because I've been accepted to AZCOM and will plan based on that ie housing. I would hate to be settled in at Glendale and have DMU call me a day before classes start to pack up and move to Des Moines. Don't get me wrong, I liked DMU so much that I would. I just hope that they'll call me a little sooner so I can prepare a little better. Good luck to you.
 
I don't htink they start until after interviews, becase if everyone (or most) of the people that they interview and accept matricultate, then they don't need a waitlist. Best way to find out is to search the forum for last years posts from now until about may/june and see what happened and which school used the waitlist and when.
 
Thanks for the suggestion. I just briefly searched last year's waitlist threads, and it looks like UMDNJ started moving towards the end of May. That was the earliest I found; I didn't really see anything concrete for any school. Just like the rest of this process, I guess it's a crapshoot. I too would happily move if accepted off of the waitlist (either UMDNJ or PCOM) during the first week of classes, but would much rather avoid all the stress. Good luck!
 
I'm waitlisted or "alternate" listed at LECOM-Bradenton... I definately hope to hear good news sooner than later for plans sake. Good luck to you all!

I am currently "on hold" at PCOM. I have heard PCOM likes the waitlist, however, I would guess it depends on the year.

Were you formally notified that your status is on "hold" by PCOM or you haven't heared anything from them yet (this is the case for me and many others).

What was different between the year prior and this year that got you in? Did you take more classes, retake MCAT, more experience.. etc.? Congrats by the way! 👍

My cousin did not get into med school until the day before classes, that sucked !!

I know lots of people who got in May/June. It really sucks, I guess thats just the nature of the process. In my cousins case, he had kept in contact with the school, and he called them the day before classes started and told them that he got into X school in another state, and they called him back that night and accepted him.

I think the best thing to do is if your grades were good this past sem, send them and updated transcript, and send them a letter of intent saying that you will go there no matter what if you get in.

BTW MAKE SURE they have your current contact info, email, cell phone number, EVERYTHING. I met with the dir. of admissions at MSUCOM and she told me how one student went out of town for a weekend during the summer, they tried calling his house, nobody picked up, and they called the next person on the waiting list and his spot was taken, when he called back it was too late. So make sure you let schools know how to contact you, or if you are going out of town!!!!

I don't know if I'd agree with "that sucks"... I'm waitlisted now and *true* I'd love to have advance notice so I can plan on attending, but call me the day b4 classes to say I'm in and I am soooo OK with that! I think the 2ndtime-arounders would agree, too.

Good advice about being able to get in touch with... in that late in the game I could imagine that happens more than anyone realizes. At that point they need to get their seats filled... I have to admit that now I check my cell phone to make sure I didn't miss a call after coming out of the bathroom/shower 😱 :laugh:

I actually received a letter (post-interview), saying I was "on hold" and my fate would be decided later. Sorry about the response delay, hope this helps.

Thanks for refreshing this important thread. So all MD schools require decisions by those accepted to be made by May 15th. Therefore, if someone is hold a DO and MD sport, they would choose hopefully by May 15th-and hopefully also open a DO slot.

Although DO schools don't have a deadline like this, I don't think, they do have large deposits they require from those accepted to hold the spot. Hence, it is hard for those to hold multiple spots, hoping to get a response from the school they want, because of the shear expense of the matter.

So..my guess it May 15th to early June will be when the waitlists start moving and then they move faster or continuosl after that to the beginning of classes.

But...keep posting here if you hear about waitlist movement at your school as it gives us other waiters some glimmer of hope....

Hey youngtraumadoc, thanks for the info! I didn't know about the May 15th deadline for MD schools- so yeah, I guess if people choose to go that route some DO seats may open 👍 . What school(s) are you waitlisted at? Isn't this waiting thing a bear 😱 ?!

I believe this is dependent upon the school.
I remember one school mentioning that their waitlist was unranked; then the ADCOM would re-review the waitlist candidates, in a similar fashion to their initial post-interview review. At this point, the previously-unranked waitlist becomes "ranked" in a de facto fashion.

I wanted to let you know that I am planning (99%) on dropping my acceptance to Des Moines (DMU) in the next little bit. Hope this helps someone out. Good luck to all in getting accepted and in your medical career.
 
Well I am waitlisted at UNECOM and am in the top 50% of the waitlist-yet they failed to mention how many people are on the waitlist so 50% means very little to me.

Also...I think all waitlists are ranked in some manner or other. It may be that they are ranked in order or applications, your application/credentials etc...
This seems to be the only logical way for schools to know who gets the spot, and why, when a seat opens up.

Even then, who really knows how the mystical admissions comittee works?
 
At LECOM-B, I was advised that alternates are not ranked. However, after all invites for acceptances have been received and the number of seats still available is determined, all of the alternates' files are reviewed again. At that point, about 15 are called to determine if they're still interested and letters are sent. Once the seats have been accepted or declined, the remainding alternates' files are supposedly reviewed again, and the process is continued until all of the seats are filled-- until the first week in August... sheesh that's a long way away! 🙄

Hope this helps someone. But yeah, I definately think schools differ in how they pull from their waitlisted.

Did you ask how many people are waitlisted and how many seats are still available? Or are they keeping it on the DL.
 
No I haven't. I assume the waitlists have just started moving and I don't really want to get in the mode of calling the school every week-although I wish I could.

But I'll find out soon

Can you please state on here what schools you are waiting from, accepted into or withdrew? Please state only post-May 15th changes as this will help us determine what schools are doing in terms of their waitlists and also prevent us from calling the same schools over and over trying to determine what is happening.

I've also been accepted to NYCOM and am on hold at Albany, but I don't know if we were stating anything other than our waitlist status... I heard that VCOM at least started pulling from their list. Anyone hear about UNECOM?

the list that's going on right now with the listing of the school and putting if you're waitlisted... i don't understand the red PCOM one. does 2/26 mean 2nd rank? i thought pcom didn't rank?!?!?!?! WTF
