i was just thnking the same thing. puts a little pressure on for tomorrow afternoon....
 
Waitlisted here too...I don't think it is a small list either. Okay, time to resume normal life and prepare for my upcoming exam/thesis completion. Good Luck everyone! :luck:
 
I just received the waitlist email as well.

Now I'm up to 5 waitlists, 0 acceptances. On a related note, SDN should really have a "pulling my hair out" smiley. 🙁
 
What evidence is there supporting whether the waitlist is large or not? Is it simply that people are posting "waitlisted"?
 
well, looks like i'm on the wait list too. good luck to everyone that hasn't heard yet. 4:30 now, looks like another half hour before it's all done.

hey, i got waitlisted too in 2004, and well here I am. I guess it helped that I was holding an acceptance anyway, but other than losing that 500 dollar deposit for the other school, things worked out pretty well in the end... so HAVE FAITH!

From the waitlist letter:

"We have clearly had many more outstanding candidates than we are able to admit. From this group of exceptional people, the Committee on Admissions has selected a small group to comprise a waiting list. This group is not ranked and includes only those applicants for whom we hope places will become available prior to matriculation in the fall. If and when places become available in the class, the Committee will consider all candidates on the waiting list."

by small group, he means anyone with a registered SDN account. at least he congratulated us on our accomplishments! sweet!!
 
Hey all,

Add me to the prospective BUSMers on the waitlist. Does anyone know how unranked waitlists work? Some say they put all our names in a hat....then burn the hat and run away laughing.
 
I got accepted, but I think I will be withdrawing...that should free up a spot!
 
and BU has retained its spot at 28 on the 2007 rankings...Higher than NYU, Dartmouth, Mt. Sinai!

I got a call on Saturday night from my interviewer. I live in NYC.

Me too, or three, or whatever. I am in love with the city of Boston, but I can't fork over that much $$$ for tuition when I didn't really have any opinion whatsoever of the school itself.
 
How is it that we all got placed on the 'very short' waitlist? I hope they had the balls to outright reject people instead of leading us all on.

Didn't dean Witzburg say something about how his waitlist stack was so small that it sat on the corner of his desk? Sound fishy...either that or SDN is represented unproportionally.

Thats funny, I remember him saying that exact thing. I guess maybe someone should have looked to see how big his desk was.
 
haha, thats funny. I was in his office, its not that big of a desk. Definitely decent sized though.

got waitlisted...then my computer crashed...what a bad day
 
A few points:

- His desk isn't very big, 3 x 5 ft maybe. There is a round conference table in his office though...

- If you're waitlisted, yeah it sucks, but trust me, plenty of people get rejected. They interviewed 1000 people. If you really want to go to BU, then tell them why. Send updates. They like people who will be a good fit for Boston and the school and thus will be happy here.

- And if you're accepted, try to come to the open house, I think its April 29th. You will get lots of free stuff and be treated like kings/queens.
 
just got my acceptance in the mail today (in nyc). no call from interviewer.
 
I got acceptance in big envelope today (NYC) got a phone call on Saturday.

I got my acceptance today as well, in a big envelope!!! I am totally going to be there in the fall, I had a great feeling from BU. I'm really excited, I've been having one constant panic attack for like 1 week about this.

Waitlisted here as well, and before I posted I went back and counted how many waitlists are in this thread so far. According to my count, including myself we're at 21 people on the waitlist at this point. And that's just on this thread on SDN. It would interesting to find the BU waitlist thread from last year and see how many people actually got in, since I'm starting to question the "short waitlist" claim.
 
Some more info:

So I did some research, and it looks like the 2005 BU waitlist thread had a lot of people posting about being waitlisted as well. Looking for the size of this seemingly large list, I found this thread:

So apparently back in 03' the waitlist was 250 people, if that second post is accurate.

Now some stats from US News:
437 acceptances for 155 seats (this is last year)
I recall being told, and the waitlist email seems to confirm when it states there are "100" seats in the class, that about 50 of those seats are for programs other than the regular MD application process we've gone through.

So, 437 - 50 = 387 acceptances for 105 seats
So, if they accepted 137 people outright for the 105 seats, that would mean everyone gets in off the waitlist. Now the question becomes..... does BU overaccept? And if so, by how much? When we find the answer to that, we'll know how likely it is that a waitlist leads to an eventual acceptance.

I called for kicks to see if they would tell me how many people were on the waitlist and of course they said they don't give out that information.
 
Getting waitlisted is making me think harder about going there. I'd just about decided on Pitt, but now ...

EDIT: I just slapped myself for you. But I was on Tuft's waitlist last year forever, so I know how it feels.
 
haha 250 by no means is a short waitlist. if this is true the dean's claims are ridiculous
