Is anybody planning on applying to schools in the UK? A lot of optometrists here (in Newfoundland, Canada) studied in England or Ireland. I wish I had known that you could get into optometry school over there right out of high school! I could've spared myself the extra work of all of these undergrad courses. Anyways, just wondering if anybody else is applying, and if they're also a little bit confused by the "UCAS Apply" application program.

Well, a little off topic... but we have a whole slew of Canadians (mostly from Alberta) who are in the IAUPR (Puerto Rico) school of Optometry. Could be an option?

😕I applied to Iaupr and just recieved an email saying i have an interview. Im currently studing for the OAT which i suppose to take on NOV 20 but im going to reschedule for mid DEC. Im just not ready. Im wondering since your a student there you can suggest something. should i wait afetr i take the oat or is very im portant to go there asap. You said there is a lot of people from canada. are u canadian? where else are people from and what is the housing situation there is there dorms or do we rent apts? i would appreciate your help to my questions thanks.

I would suggest you ask for a interview by phone (like previous students) so you do not come all out here. However, coming here may give you an example of what you are going to be living in. Most of PR is not up to US standards and it its hard living here. It IS BEAUTIFUL here too- a tropical paradise. But when your running water is brown and the lights go out when it rains you do question is it worth it or not. Do not worry too much about the interview, and you'll understand when you get here. We are a not quite a "professional" school as compared to the states.
Take the OAT as soon as you can- even if you get in somewhere else you'll need those scores!
I am not Canadian, I am a proud Southerner who misses Cracker Barrel! 🙂
The housing situation- the school doesn't help. You'll have to work hard on your own to get an apartment. They decided to build dorms, but it took 12 years to build our new school building. They did start, but I'll be surprised if they are ready by Aug 2009.

Good luck, if you have anymore questions feel free to PM me. I'd rather not go into a ton of details on the internet!
