Anybody else a Paramedic!!!???

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
How does a person become an EMT in Florida? I tried searching on Google for a course, but the only one I found cost $4,000 and was only available to people who planned to become a firefighter afterwards.

Medwell pm me I am an Instructor in FL... I might be able to help you out..

Check local community colleges. Most have one for about $500-$750. Local ambulance services (eg AMR) may offer courses too...

Edit:

Or just use an SDN hook-up. 😛

I don't believe you will find many here who are "real" EMS folks. Many pre-meds get their EMT-B cert, but it is definitely the minority that actually work in the field.

I am currently an EMT-I and was planning to take the medic class this upcoming fall, but I ended up getting into an SMP program.

I am currently trying to clear my ALS packet to be a released ALS provider - it takes a LONG time, especially in the county I work in. It takes a minimum of 75 calls, 5 intubations, 25 IV's w/80% first-stick success, etc. So, it isn't easy.

Good luck to all of you pursuing an EMS career - the cost is great, but so are the rewards.

I bet to differ look at the Pre hospital forum, there are many many people who were in EMS for years and went on to become DOC's.

I love my job at the fire department. It's an adventure! 😀

Enjoy it while you can - I worked EMS for 4 years in college, and now I really miss it. 🙁 Every time an ambulance goes by the library on its way to the ER, I am reminded of my pain lol

Yeah, that is another perk of working in EMS. I have a blast hanging out with fire dudes, and unlike many EMS folks, I really do appreciate having them on the scene.

Plain and simple, it is alot of fun!

Been a full-time paramedic for the vast majority of the past 5 years, a basic for a few years prior to that. It was certainly the greatest job I could ever imagine having while being in school! I'll certainly miss pieces of it.

<-- EMT 🙂
CPR saves, helping olding people, saving kids, etc. etc. Excellent conversation starter, and chicks really dig them.
Even though I think I'm attractive, no chick has ever come to me and said "Can I have your number? Just incase I need your help?" I just want someone to say that to me (preferably a girl) so that I can say "9-1-1"

Also, if you worked as a paramedic at an emergency 9-1-1 service, you'll possibly be able to run a code more fluidly during the start of your third year clinical rotations than a lot of folks at your same level.

Yeah I work my Fire Department too where most guys are EMT-Firefighters. Those guys are mad chill; even though I'm not trained in firefighting, I know most of the skills because of weekly training at the station.
