anybody whose hope is hanging on just one or two waitlists?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You guys need a backup plan, as a reapplicant your going to be asked at some point how you improved your application in the past year, it doesnt need to be a post bacc/SMP but it does need to be something (Research, vollenteering, etc.) The MCAT change isnt going to be a good enough answer.

do you mean volunteering?

I have always been a volunteer during my undergrad and I will be stepping it up over the summer by going on a service immersion trip in June. I also plan on starting to shadow my general surgeon. Just for fun, I am going to keep a summer job as a waterpark manager. Is that enough?

I'm planning on doing the same thing... but I'm not sure exactly when this summer I will apply. Are you going to fork over all the $ for the primary even though you may get off a waitlist? 😕

i'm going to also resubmit early, but i'm not retaking the mcat although my score isn't anything great (29) and is now on its third year.....but i'd do anything to skip taking that again

i will sadly probably end up giving up the primary money, and probably a lot since i plan on applying to many more schools than i have....and i will also do whatever secondaries arrive if i still have not heard

i'll be continuing my research next year so no worries of post-baccs or anything....i'm considering taking a course at a local school just as a "hey, look at me, i can still do the school thing" but i'd rather not

Do schools look favorably upon people who have previously been wailisted at their school? Does being on 5+ waitlists this year mean that I don't have to apply to a ton of schools next year. I'm thinking of applying to 10 max on amcas.

Well, I have an acceptance at a state school, but I've got a lot of hope hanging on one waitlist (Northwestern).

my plan is to submit amcas as soon as the gates open (june) with my april score(which was a 30) and get all secondaries and LOR's in asap. i will not check the august mcat box, because i heard it will delay your app. when i get my august mcat scores (and they better be really good scores, so i'm gonna have to study my butt off!), i will send them to the schools.

meanwhile, i am done with all classes. so i will be studying for the mcat while volunteering. i also have a full-time job. hopefully this will be enough.

of course, if i get pulled off the waitlist at my state school, then i am aborting all this hard work and booking a vacation to fiji!!!

My hope is hanging on one HPA List and an application hold.

Good luck everyone! 👍

Good luck guys, being in stasis is not fun. A lot of action will happen mid to late May but remember that it starts to trickle down from there. For those of you who are dreading starting the AMCAS again wait until June 1st to think about it but as soon as June 1st roles around get yourself in gear and start it up all over again.

No, I think s/he means that they got dropped off of a waitlist, as in rejected. I didn't even think they did that until later in the summer. I hope one of the other ones works out for you, miam042.

I know it's stupid to be obsessing this way, but do you guys think that I have a pretty good chance of going SOMEWHERE in the fall if I am on five alternate lists and have one school deciding?

I'm in the same boat! On two waitlists.. both post-interview. Would kill for an acceptance at one, but would be happy for the other.

Was wondering about letters of interest. Is it preferable to write a letter of interest rather than making a phone call? And, if so, who do you write the letter to? The admissions faculty, or to your interviewer?

Thanks.

Yes, actually you don't really qualify for this thread 🙂

2 holds and 1 alternate. Feeling hopeless...

Just one tiny glimmer of hope left for me, one HPA list.... I'm also applying to Georgetown SMP and Cinci's masters program just in case.

well, i am sure that no matter how many interviews you went to and how many waitlists you are on, if you don't have an acceptance in hand the anxiety is still there.

good luck to you clindor!

I know! I didn't think schools did that, but apparently some do. 🙁 😡 :scared:

Just found out that NYMC's last interview day was today, so pre-interview people who haven't heard dick from them, expect a "letter".

The waitlist thread just went taut.

Thanks! Good luck to everyone on this thread. Obviously we all care enough to make the effort to become great doctors...

NYMC and Sinai waitlists... NYMC is unranked and Sinai is ranked but they wont hint at my odds, I have no idea what the chances are that I'll get in!

thanks. i'm all for a party. everything right now seems pretty unbearable i need to take a load off!

if anybody has some spare prayers, please send one up for mcg's waitlist to move along to my spot!! so i won't have to take the august mcat... *dread*

I just ordered ExamKrackers from Amazon to jump start my official just-in-case-I-don't-get-off-the-waitlist August MCAT studying. It has been difficult throwing myself into studying knowing that I could be getting good news soon!

Me too!
I just got Examkrackers but I can't bring myself to start studying! I am on one waitlist and the wait is killing me. I pretty much feel that I am not gonna make it in as they did not even let me know I was waitlisted (I interviewed in Jan) and they won't tell me what my ranking is. I feel so much anxiety about taking the MCAT again but I have to get into it start studying for it cause I just have a really bad feeling about the whole waitlist thing. I called twice (they told me I'd know a month after interview) and the lady I spoke to seemed so uncomfortable when she was talking to me. I wish they would tell me quick so I could start studying!!!

So...if you do have to reapply...When do you plan on submitting the primary? Also, will you check the August MCAT box? Hmmmmm, the timing with this is so nuanced...

You guys I am trying to sell my Kaplan materials, osmosis CD's and a complete in-class Princeton course. You are killing me! 😛

i will be applying first day amcas opens and i won't check the august box, since i have a previous mcat score. i heard it delayes your app. once august scores come out in october i think i can update my file at schools. most schools send you secondaries automatically anyways.

for those of you who have audio osmosis, i heard there were a lot of mistakes on it. is this true???

Well it turns out I am not much of an audio learner. I only listened to part of one of like 12 CDs. I wouldn't know if there was a mistake on it. Sounds like a good lawsuit though lol.

yeah i heard about these mistakes on their examkrackers website forums. but doesn't seem like anybody was fixing it. i don't want to be brainwashed with these "facts" only to get them wrong on the mcat!

8 DAYS TILL MAY 15TH!!

:luck: :luck: :luck:

7 DAYS TILL MAY 15TH!!

:luck: :luck: :luck:

is it really as if on may 15th massive amounts of mailings go out? is this really going to happen, or is it just "around" may 15th. i think i asked this in some other thread, but i lost where i asked it so i don't know what the answer was 🙂

also, rayhan, i'm sad that nymc stopped interviewing....well, looks like i'll be getting a disappointing letter in the mail...again

Best of luck guys. I'm withdrawing from Georgetown soon, so if anyone on this thread is waitlisted there, I'll tell them to bequeath my spot to you!

Two waitlists for me--GW and Sinai. I will seriously cry (tears of joy) if I get into Sinai!!!

yeah, it doesn't seem like a flood of mailings will go out may 15th...just that adcomms will know approx. how many spots have opened up. I'd give it like a week or two after that for them to actually start firing away with the decisions.

I'm totally obsessing over the NYMC waitlist and have practically given up hope on the EVMS waitlist.

I'm sorry that you all or so stressed out....waiting is no fun. Just thought I might try and cheer you up - I officially withdrew from a couple of schools today (waitlists and acceptances), so hopefully I opened up some spots for people like you. I don't think you all would have to wait as much if the schools didn't take so long getting financial aid packages out. Anyway, things should start moving for you all in the coming weeks, so don't give up. :luck: :luck: :luck:

Well one of my weaknesses has always been impatience...guess what, I'm learning ot be more patient...but it killing me!

6 DAYS TILL MAY 15TH!!

:luck: :luck: :luck:

👍 Goodluck Waitlisters. 👍

I need chocolate.

u know i just saw on vh1 last night about "celebrity diets" that raw chocolate beans ground up are a good weight-loss remedy! but it probably does not taste all that great, without the mixed sugar and milk fat, heh.
chock-full of antioxidants though!
