hey everybody,
this forum is depressing me...am i the only one with one interview invite...i have one in jan with univ of hawaii. i am a CA resident and i finished all my 2ndaries around mid november...so i guess i'm kinda late =(
please let me know if there are people out there who feel my pain. thanks!🙁

by the way, my stats aren't that great, 32P mcat and 3.46 GPA. my ECs are okay (volunteer at hospital first year, med mission summer of first year, lots of tutoring and teaching kids, research 3rd and 4th year, now taking a year off and working as clinical research coordinator). i'm kinda iffy on my LORs, i only know 2 out of my 5 letters that will be strong letters.

you have nothing to complain about. I don't even have that one interview. You should do whatever you can to kill your interview, b/c that's what i would do if i were in your position. I definately get depressed when i look at all the acceptances SDN people get. But, I'm sure they have all worked hard and have earned them. That just means, I might have to apply again, and this time with hopefully a better mcat score (that's right, I'm taking it again in april...<sigh>)

no worries - the admissions season goes well into march for most schools, which means that many interviews are conducted in january and february.

At the same time, I would encourage you to call the schools to make sure your files are complete. Show your enthusiasm.

Sharsky,
Your application is WAY late. I attribute your lack of interviews to that MOSTLY. Hang in there and see what happens. If you have no more invites by late Feb to March, then worry. Who knows, by then you could be in @ Hawaii. Come on, who could complain about having to spend 4 years in Hawaii!! Good Luck!!

thanks for the support guys...i do feel i applied too late....i regret that now. it took awhile to get LORs and i was sort of lazy...it was hard working full time and coming home all tired to do apps. i'll try my best at hawaii but they only take 5 non residents and interview like 65 so my chances are very slim. hopefully i'll hear from more schools and you're right, i should start checking with schools if my file's complete.

Yeah, you are a little on the late side, but it's ain't over til it's over. I feel your pain on the lack of interviews. I feel like I've had less than everyone else I know. . . but there's hope.

Look at this: Accordingto the MSAR, last year Hawaii had 6 out-of-staters ATTEND out of 68 interviewed. Remember that they ACCEPT a lot more people than actually attend. (It's a hopeful thing to remember when looking through these seemingly bleak statistics.)

Plus, they only interviewed 68 of 978 outta-staters last year. . . so all else being equal you only had a 7% chance of being interviewed and you got it!! Now that's awesome!!!!!!!

Chins up. . . . fake it til you make it. Look at my name. . I'm not really a "superstar", but I figure if I keep telling myself I am maybe eventually I will be. 😉

Sharsky,

I am in the same situation. I've had one interview (and an acceptance Thank God!) from my state school, and now I'm waiting on 9 schools. I had a late recommendation letter that held up my secondaries until mid-November.

On a different note, I intern in clinical affairs and research for a large Biotech Company. I'd like to be more involved with the research part like you are, I just analyze the results and help submit stuff to the FDA and foreign governments. I'm gonna defer my acceptance for a year to do something similar to what you are doing.

I wouldn't worry if I were you. You have decent stats, and even in the off chance that you don't get an acceptance, you have other options to pursue until next year. If I were a betting man, which I'm not, I would be willing to wager that you'll have an acceptance by next fall.

Good luck to you and stay positive, you're better of than a lot of people I know. SDN does not represent the general applicant pool.

Sharsky, I'm in the same boat. Only 1 interview, and just found out today that I got wait listed there. 🙁 It sucks but life goes on and there's alway the chance the call will come a little later. Just keep your head up, rock out your upcoming interview and hope for the best. Not to mention the fact that you'll be in Hawaii, so it's not a total wash. Good luck!!!

If it makes you feel better, I spoke Mount Sinai recently and asked: is it ok to still submit my secondary even tho it's so late? I told her I was on the fence about whether they would just look at my app and say: Hmph! I guess she couldn't be bothered to apply earlier (when in fact, I was completely flat broke). The admissions lady was totally cool and said that people have brought them in the very last day and still been interviewed and accepted. The admissions committee looks at them all and judges them all equally - and not on tardiness. 🙂

As for being out of state to Hawaii, I applied to the state U where I am currently living just because it's a neat place to live, etc. They accept like, almost no one from out of state, but hey! I tried.

Well, like you, they were very encouraging and helpful and today I got an email invite for an interview! So we'll see ...

Keep the faith, totally enjoy your interview (I mean, Hawaii !!) and keep your chin up - act as if, when in doubt ! Good luck !!

Same boat. I interview at NYMC and its in Jan. I''m just going to try my best to impress them and hope that I get in.

i got all my shiz in by the end of sept at the latest....and i got rejected from case, vandy, pritzker, and northwestern since then, pre-interview. but i got my first interview invite to rush, for the end of january, which i'm super excited about 😀 now, as for the other 4 schools i applied to? totally M.I.A.....

aawww thanks for all the replies and encouragement...i sorta feel better knowing i'm not the only one. i seriously have been in depression the past week. and i did like 20 secondaries! hopefully i'll hear from them soon, i.e. if i'm rejected at least let me know than leave me hanging. i got one rejection from UC Davis and do you think it's okay for me to ask specifically what I lacked?

hey menemotxi...i do like clinical research a lot but i don't even get to analyze the results but i interact with a lot of doctors and patients. that's all i do basically - make sure patients are eligible for the clinical trials then follow protocol strictly once they're enrolled. i enjoy it a lot! i think it's because of my work now that i'm even more positive med is for me. i think the thought of being a doctor is consuming me since that's what i see everyday at work and i feel like a doctor at many times (the patients in my studies all call me doctor in the beginning...heehee, then i tell them later that i'm only a study coordinator).

i guess a lot of people who are in these forums have excellent stats since they all seem to be getting interviews and acceptances everywhere but i'm glad there are few out there who's in the same boat as i am

WTF? You got an interview at JABSOM Hawaii? I completed my app mid october and I live here!!!!!!😡
