Hey everyone,

I know this might sound silly, esp since it is "only" January, but I wonder: is there anyone who has been patienty waiting on one or more schools since very early on ( submitted secondary early Aug), hasn't heard anything since, and is thinking of withdrawing app? Am I jumping the gun here? I have 4 acceptances thus far, two in-state and two out-of-state and I am still waiting on one of my in-state schools to "review" my secondary application and LORs... I am pretty perturbed by the fact that they have been essentially silent for more than 5 months now (and yes, they are on rolling admissions). Do you think it's time to give up on them? The chances of interviewing for a spot other than the waitlist at this point in the game are prob pretty slim.... but at the same time, this feels sort of like the immature "dump your sig. other before they dump you" sort of mentality. Any thoughts/ anyone able to sympathize? Just curious😕

I am not yet involved in the process of sending in an application to a medschool..but I have defintely submitted my fair share of apps to jobs and feel there are certain parallels to your situation.

First, you are in a wonderful position, you already have offers. 👍

This leads to the second point, the ball is really in your court. Go on the offensive. Call up the school you are waiting on, let them know that you have been accepted elsewhere but really have your heart set on that paticular program. That may be just the information they need to get things moving.

Letting them know that you are personally interested in their school and not just generically sending out apps to any medical school will go a long way into separating you from the herd.

Good luck! 😉

Exilio - Thanks for your response! I've been thinking about giving them a call, but their online status page seems to indicate that the admissions office would prefer students not make contact unless absolutely necessary - they imply pretty firmly that they would rather applicants just use the status page to garner information about where they stand in the process. Until recently, I've been thinking that I would attend this school for sure if ever admitted, but I think my annoyance about their silence has left a bitter taste. This process does weird things to people🙂 Maybe I need to dig deep and decide if I would still want to attend there over the other schools I've already been accepted at - doesn't that seem like such a hard determination to make on what little evidence applicants really have?🙁 So darn exasperating!

This reminds me of a post on another foruma year or so ago where someone was reconsidering a school they were very interested in ebcause the financial aid people were being weasels.

Never, ever make any kind of important decision on circumstantial information. When you go interview somewhere it goes both ways. They are not only evaluating you, but you are get the opportunity to evaluate them.

So don't be too rash and make your decsion over something like this. It sounds like this is a program you are really into, and are perhaps looking to prevent some emotional trauma of getting official notification you have been rejected.

It's kind of like breaking up with someone before they breakup with you because you heard a rumor they were going to do it...and you want to be first. 😉

Don't get sucked into that game. If they don't like to be contacted except for VERY important reasons, this sounds like one to me. Don't confuse annoyance with persistence...let them know that their program means a lot to you..it can't hurt, afterall, you are considering rescinding your app...so who cares if they get bothered.

Afterall, no matter what, you are going to medical school no matter what. 😀
