Has anyone visited? Sadly, I'm only about a half hour away, and haven't made the time to visit. I was curious if they are as well equipped as your typical vet school - equipment-wise, faculty, different specialties, etc.
My understanding is that they are NOT- but I have no real evidence. I was also unsure how their clinicals worked, w/o having an active teaching hospital?

Tuskegee does have a teaching hospital. It is where most people in Tuskegee take their pets for their veterinary care. Fourth years do clinics at the teaching hospital and a six week externship at a veterinary hospital of their choice (the school must approve it). It's really a great school and you get great clinical experience.
Skegee produces some AMAZING doctors. I have worked with two of them and talk with several others at my job (telemedicine) on a somewhat regular basis. Not only have they obtained a stellar education, but are some of the nicest people you will ever meet.
Skegee as people have stated, has a diverse student population as well. As far as facilities, I believe they are fairly well equipped. From what I recall hearing is that much of the veterinary faculty runs back and forth between Auburn and Tuskegee. I have two former co-workers/friends, one in the vet program (3rd year) and one who is trying to start next year that I don't think have complained once about the school.
The only thing about Alabama... they are a bit slow! 🙂 You really have to hound the administrators at Tuskegee to send those dang applications out!
