anyone applying/been accepted this cycle with a masters?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I did the 1 year Barry program and so far ive had 7 interviews and 3 acceptances. The program is good but its what you'll make of it.

Sweet... All these people commenting on Barry changes it seems aren't even attending the program, so I have been kind of skeptical. Any FL schools youve been accepted to?

I'm going to look at the school and area soon (I'm from MD)

What is the Barry program? Masters or post bacc?

I attended a different University but also obtained my MS degree. The program I did was primarily first med school courses, our class was taking the same courses/exams as the first year med students. I did not receive any C's during this Masters program. So far I've received two rejections, no interviews and waiting to hear back from seven. I thought going ahead with a Masters would help, now I just added 60 more grand to my current school debt and still no dental school. 🙁

I was skeptical myself when i started, i gotta admit the program was a bit unorganized when I started. Again if you end up attending just study hard and try to do well. Things will always pay off if the effort is there. As for florida schools I got into NOVA. I know 2peeps that got into UF tho.

I think 75% of people who did barry got in somewhere. Possibly more

I'm unfamiliar with the Barry program but I am finishing my masters degree in oral biology at the University of Washington. I have been successful so far and feel really prepared for dental school. I've had the opportunity to take classes with first years, second years, and residents. If you can find an oral biology program I HIGHLY recommend it.

Sorry to hear that.
with a 3.3 GPA undergrad and 3.1 GPA master, 17 DAT seems low. When did you apply? Are you thinking about retaking your DAT?

I also went to dental hygiene school prior to grad school and obtained a 4.0 GPA and scored in the upper 90th percentile on my three board exams. Even finishing my Masters with a 3.24 GPA, still raised my overall GPA according to AADSAS. I just didn't try my best during undergrad but changed my mindset in dental hygiene and grad school. I sent my app out end of June '11 but was also studying for the DAT again. I re-took the DAT for the third time in October '11 so my app was on hold until the schools received the updated scores. My subpar scores and being late in the cycle put me at a disadvantage, I know. Would it be worth it to apply early next cycle because taking the DAT for a fourth time is just not an option for me?

I did my Masters at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) - Stratford Campus. Completed it in 1.5 semesters. So far 1 acceptance and 2 interviews. Honestly, these Masters programs are what you put into it. If you go to them and get majority A's than you have a great shot.

I did the 1 year Barry Master's program and got a 4.0. 21/22/19 DATs. I received 10 interviews this cycle and went to 9 pre dec and cancelled the post dec interview. Was accepted to 5 schools. Although I did apply to 33 schools, I am glad I did.

Although I had a great experience, the school is changing up the program and I would read some of the recent threads about the school. I don't think I would suggest anyone doing the program because of the change in faculty and director.

I did Tulane's one year CMB program...10 interview invites, got into my top choices. Can't complain 🙂.

i'm in my second semester of a master's in physiology. i have a 4.0 master's GPA so far, but dental schools won't know that until AADSAS completes my academic update. but i have had two interviews and no acceptances thus far. only one rejection out of the 10 schools i applied to, though.

same as above. In the midst of a Masters in physiology...been accepted to three places.

which schools did you guys do ?

where did i get in, or where is my Master's? Master's at BYU, got accepted to Midwestern, Western, and Roseman (turned down loma linda interview)

Which program at BYU did you do? I hear good things about the school, but I'm not a Mormon...

I think you should make an appointment with the dean of your state dental school. Talk to him about your situation.
Another person you can call is Dr. Benningfields at Louisville. Make an appt with her.

They will let you know what you have to do..

I just finished my first semester of the CMB program at Tulane with an ok.... 3.66 GPA
i academic updated before christmas - but i have not heard back anything

I had an undergrad GPA of 3.23 and 3.0 science and DAT 20/20/21

I am starting to lose hope for my second cycle now
should I start calling schools?

Can I ask where you did your MA?

Anyone applying this cycle with a masters ? and accepted? I'm applying to Barry this cycle and just wondering if anyone has had success...
Just graduated with my master's in Molecular Biology mid-December. It took me 1.5 years. I was accepted December 1st...it was my third try. Good Luck!

I had zero success applying to dental school prior to completing my Master's in biomechanics. Once I was finished grad school, I received 6 interviews, 1 acceptance so far, and I'm still holding out for my top choice. I should mention that I spent a considerable amount of my 2 years in grad school doing dental research on the side and improving other aspects of my application. Did the grad school help? probably. Is is solely responsible for my change in luck? No clue.

Good luck!
