I believe 50 seats out of 60 were reserved for Idaho students before. I am not sure now that they have expanded the class size to 80 for this year.

We have 72 in our class this year and I think about 6 or 7 out of state students... not too many. You have a chance though, especially if your gpa is good. they are planning on 80 seats for this cycle as far as I know.

How do u like the school and program so far? And do u know what was the GPA range to inviting for interviews? Since I am Out of State applicant have no idea about those 2 cities pocatello and Meridian, which one of them larger or better to live? As far as I know the preference city would nor increase/decrease chances of acceptance, is that right?( sorry for too many Q ,appreciate in advance 🙂)

I am not in the Pharmacy program but I am familiar with the cities.

Pocatello is a smaller (50K populations) city. ISU is based in Pocatello so there are some great university related events.
Meridian is just west of Boise. It is a large city, relatively, with much more shopping, city life, etc than Pocatello. I am not sure about the ISU campus there, but Boise State is closeby with a great football team to support and other events to attend.

Both cities are close to snow skiing, water skiing, hiking, camping, and outdoor opportunities. Pocatello is only a few hours from Yellowstone and Jackson, WY.

Hope that helps.

Pharmacy school at ISU is impossible to get into as out of state resident...UNLESS you have steller grades! 😀...and lots of experience. They love to see that.

Also, I did my undergrad their...pocatello is not where you want to be if you are hoping for a happening college city. :S The only reason I did so well in my undergrad is because I lived there and there was absolutely NOTHING to do 🙂

😀 LOL thanks for telling me about Pocatello! Cause I hate dead cities..
Unfortunately they accept about 15-20 Out of state stu each year. But don’t know how many O of S students apply there?

It helped a lot appreciate you! I had no idea about 'em.😀

I would definitely choose the Meridian campus over Pocatello- lots more to do here. The campus is brand new, and quite nice inside. Plus, Pocatello gets quite a bit colder in the winter it seems.

So far, I like the classes- we have a few "interesting" instructors, but I'm actually liking it a lot. But, it's very different from undergrad; most of us coasted through undergrad with no problems/minimal studying. Very different now! I would agree with the previous poster who said it's hard to get in if you're from out of state unless your grades are excellent. Of course, they do like to see pharm experience... but honestly, at least for ISU, I think they really look at your undergrad grades, especially your scores in more advanced courses.

And yes, your school preference doesn't determine whether or not you get in. First they decide who gets in, and do their best to give everyone their first choice of which campus to go to. We think that the people with the highest GPAs, who wanted Meridian, got Meridian as our first choice... but that's just speculation by us students. Pretty much everyone in Meridian had a pretty high undergrad GPA. I don't know who has lower than 3.7ish... I'm not sure about the Pocatello GPAs though.

I got an interview invite today, and I'm from CA. Anybody else get an interview?

ya, i'm from ATL n invited for interview but i haven't scheduled yet. how abt u, when is ur interview? Do u have any idea abt wat qustion on the interv? well let me know ur stat k

Interviews are scheduled from March 1-March 16. Once they're finished interviewing, all the files will be reviewed and the decisions will be made. Last year the interview consisted of a faculty interview (with 2 faculty members), a group interview with current students asking questions/observing, and then a brief case discussion followed by a timed essay (based on the case discussion). The case is usually something ethical in nature, with no true "right" or "wrong" answer, but what you write needs to be backed up appropriately with good reason for the decision you made. Be prepared for a long day... last year there was a lot of down time in between things, where we were just waiting around. Hopefully this year they made it better though- I think they were going to work on that. They are doing full interviews in Boise this year; at least that's my understanding. Last year those of us who didn't have the whole interview process in Pocatello had part of the interview in Boise and part of it in Pocatello, which sucked.

Be prepared for typical interview questions. "why pharmacy?" "Why not ____ job?" "what are your strengths and weaknesses?" "what can you offer the profession?" "what are your long-term career goals?" "if you could have any super power, what would it be?" (seriously... some faculty asked that.) "what are you going to do when you fail your first physiology exam in P1 year?" (odds are you will do terrible in that class, with the only saving grace being that everyone else does terrible too).

Hi, did anyone already have an interview at idaho?
how was the interview ? and how is the school?

I was looking at their pre-pharmacy requirements and I think they have the most specific ones that I have seen yet... except maybe WSU.

Dose anyone know, what was the interview essay question in Meridian campus last year?🙁

guys do they care about the writing a lot when they want to choose from out of state? i have a high GPA
anybody remember the similar ethical question? what was it?

they gave people a case basically, with several ethical components to it, and the candidates discussed it amongst themselves (under observation) and then wrote an essay about it. I believe the interview process is changing slightly this year though.
