Hey I was just wondering if anyone was applying to the University at Buffalo. This is my top school and now that I got my Oct PCAT scores in I am definitely going to apply. (I was waiting to see what I got to decide if I was going to apply there)

I was wondering if anyone has applied there before or is planning to. If so, I was wondering what kind of PCAT score and other things they look for. Oh and any other information about their program would be great!

Thanks,
Rebekah

What Is Your Score ? I Had A Plan To Apply Ub But They Only Prefer
Ny Residents . For This I Going To Apply My State Pharmacy School.
Good Luck!!!!!!!

I've applied to UB pharmacy school and I also took the October 2006 PCAT, but I haven't received my scores yet.

Really? On their website it says that they don't prefer NY residents. If you have ever stepped foot on the campus you would realize that most of the students are foreign.

I'm applying to UB -- it was basically the only school I applied to last year, wound up getting waitlisted, so I'm applying again. I took the PCAT Oct 05, got a Verbal 95, Bio 77, Reading 58, Quant 98, Chem 96, and Comp 95 -- asked UB if I should retake it, and they recommended trying to get everything above an 80% -- so I retook in this Oct - got a Verbal 95, Bio 99, Reading 99, Quant 97, Chem 95, and Comp 99 ... so hopefully that will help me out a bit. I've got a BS Biochemistry degree, a few years experience as a Pharmacy Technician, but unfortunately my GPA is on the low side (3.31) - which is what seems to be killing me on these applications. So I'm hoping this year maybe will go a little bit better.
As for Buffalo giving preference to NY residents, I'm almost positive its not true (although I wish it was true considering I am a resident) - but they have an early assurance program for students who are currently pre-pharm students at UB.

I didn't think the resident preference sounded right. I am from Buffalo orginally and I have a BS in biology from Niagara University. I have been living in SC for two years now working as a cytogenetic technologist but I can't get the idea of being a pharmacist out of my mind. So I took the PCAT this past Oct and I got a 78 verbal, 97 bio, 87 reading, 89 math, 97 chem, 4 essay, and 96 composite. I figured that would be good enough but after seeing your scores I am not so sure. My GPA was good (i think it was a 3.78 overall) but I am afraid for two reasons : 1. I really only have about 3 months experience working as a tech way back in 2001 and 2. I haven't applied yet. I just read through their website and saw that they accept on a rolling admissions basis. I don't know if I have hurt my chances now. I didn't want to apply until I got my scores back. What was the time frame in which you applied?

Ok I am going to get off here and finish my pharmcas application ASAP!

UB just got my supplemental last week sometime ... when I applied last year, I wound up getting my application in the day it was due - which probably didn't look great, but I wound up getting a late interview anyway. I think you should just get your application in ASAP and you should get an interview no prob, then just do well in that and you should be fine. Last year my interview wasn't that great, which might be partially why I wound up waitlisted
...good luck to you

Thanks, that made me feel so much better. I think if i can get an interview I will be ok. I'm not so far behind on my application - they have received my transcripts and pcat scores. I just have to get my references and my essay done. I should be finishing my part of the pharmcas and supplemental application today. I am really worried about my references though - sometimes science professors can spread themselves too thin. Good luck to you too! Hopefully we will see each other next fall in buffalo!
