Hey all,
Just wondering if any of you guys are applying to pharmacy schools while being married with kid(s). If so, which schools are you looking at, what type of living quarters are you looking for, and how is your family handling the whole pharmacy school idea. I am 21, married with a 2 year old and applications start this upcoming fall and just wanted to know if anyone else is doing the same. 👍

I don't have any children personally, but I know a few in pharmacy school now or who are recent graduates with young children. They don't complain about it.. but I'm sure it makes a bit more difficult. Whenever I ask them how they handle it all they just say they need to make time to study which they tell me isn't as difficult as it seems.

Hi Pharmapp23,

I think it depends on how supportive your spouse is on the idea of school. Make sure you don't take your significant other for granted as they are going to pick up a lot of the slack while you're going to school full time. Tell them how much this means to you and you appreciate the help and sacrifice they are putting in for you to better yourself. Although I'm not in pharmacy school yet and have just completed all the required pre-recs, I have an 8 yr. daughter working and going to school full-time. Just make sure you organize your time effectively and carefully and you should be fine. Think of it this way, if you can do that you'll be an excellent pharmacist! Good Luck!

I started out pharmacy school with my wife and ended with my beautiful 11 month old daughter. It has been a real challenge, especially rotations, but we worked through any and all problems that came up and will be much better for it in a couple of months.

I think our main thing going through school that kept us happy was making sure to set aside time for each other. Go on date nights, workout together, walk the dogs. We also established a routine and schedule and that seemed to help keep things organized especially around finals season.

Hi! I will start my first year this fall, and I am married and have a toddler. I got put on the waitlist for my #1, so my family and I will be moving to another state unless I get pulled from the waitlist.

You have to have a financially and emotionally supportive spouse. My husband will be quitting his job, and he's looking for a job in the new area. I will not be working.

When looking at schools, you want to consider a few things. One thing important for me was daycare/babysitter cost and rent. The hours of your curriculum may be important. My school's first year is like 8-2pm and a late lab one day a week so that's good for me, bc my husband plans to work 2nd shift.

We will be renting a home, because we want privacy and space for my daughter.

How I am preparing myself while in school: Treat school like a job and get everything related to school done on the weekdays with no exception. Weekends are reserved for my husband and daughter.

Message me if you have any other questions.

Just curious, how do you plan to get job offers after pharmacy school without intern experience? Are you going to school somewhere where they don't require extra hours to sit for the boards?
I also have a family and plan to work weekends because I want to be able to obtain a job after graduation. I would love to hear from other people who have finished pharmacy school in this same position.
