Hi,
Has anyone decided to go to Western for the class of 2014? I am 99.9% sure that's where I will be attending in the Fall. I'm really excited! I didn't see an official "WesternU College of Podiatric Medicine Class of 2014" thread like all the other schools...so I was just wondering. I would love to talk to people who are going to be my fellow classmates! 🙂

looks like you'll get it all to yourself!

When I interviewed the two students that interviewed with me were both dead set on attending Western. They told me that they were going there if they got in. One of them I am still in contact with, he is going to Western. That program is going to put out some great students in the future. I really liked the school it just wasn't the best fit for me. Good Luck!

Shireiqiang, thank you! That is good to hear. I am hoping a few more people reply soon...lol

if you build it, they will come

I hate facebook, but it can serve a purpose. If you are accepted and have deposit and all that crap done, contact admissions and talk to them. I know it worked for the DMU 2013 class. Admissions sent a class wide email during the summer so everybody was able to get in contact prior to school starting. It was a good thing, I would venture to guess Western Admissions would feel the same way. Now that I think about it, doesnt Western have an unofficial SDN thread somewhere?

Rumor has it that Western is trying to set up a fourth year clinical rotation campus at Kaiser Sacramento.

texasgirl2010- I am interviewing at Western next week. I live in Texas as well, but grew up in SoCal, and hope to return there 🙂. Any advice/info you can give me about the interview? Thanks.

Hey texasgirl2010,

I just put my deposit in. Western is going to be a great school!

surfdr,

The interview is like all the others (at least that I've been to).

-intro to school meet admissions reps
-interview ( for me panel with dean and teacher)
-tour school
-lunch with students
-financial aid discussion
-exit interview

You will be in the same room for most of the day. Ask lots of questions! Make sure this is the school you want.

Relax and be yourself. Have fun with it! Life is too short not to have fun right?

Forgot to mention... They also talk to you about the curriculum and how they do things there.

The interview process at Western is really relaxed. It was just me and one other girl. We first met with the Dean, Dr. Harkless, and he just introduced himself and talked to us about some stuff for 15-20 mins. Then I think we went on the campus tour; the campus is nice...especially the new building where most of the Podiatry classes are. We had lunch with 2 current students, and had a couple other presentations with financial aid and director of student affairs. Then we had the interviews. My interview was with 2 people, one was the Anatomy Lab professor, and the other was a DPM. They were both really nice. The questions that they ask are totally different than any other interviews I went on. They asked me about 5-7 behavioral questions. I remember some of mine were: "Tell me about a time you had to conform to a policy," "Tell me about a time you had to give someone constructive criticism," "Tell me about a time you had to make a difficult decision," and I can't remember the others. Also they asked me why do I want to be a podiatrist. But no questions about my application. I used examples from my application in answering their questions, though. I was really impressed with the school and the curriculum. It surpassed the other 3 schools I interviewed at which were OCPM, Temple, and AZPOD. But that is just my opinion! I had a really good feeling while I was there, and that was all I was looking for. But you just have to go by how you feel when you're there. Hope this helps!

GibsonMan, where in Texas do you live? And I'm so excited for Western! I've talked to 2 other students so far who will be joining us. We really need to start an official thread and/or facebook group!

Texasgirl,

Congrats on your acceptance to WesternU. I believe I might have been one of the students that met with you during lunch.

Western is a great school and has huge potential for the podiatry program.

See you in the fall! Now back to Neuro...

I'm going to western and I'm really excited. WesternU has a lot to offer and the potential to be the best Podiatry school in a couple of years. Only people who interview there can actually realize how great its going to be. Where r u guys staying?

No.

GibsonMan- Thanks for the input, unfortunatley, I forgot to subscribe to the thread so didn't get it until now. No matter, the interview went well, I was accepted and will be attending WesternU. See you at orientation...!

Despite what spo01 thinks 😀 I agree with you TimmyT. Western is going to be great and has tremendous potental to be the best (although.... I do like the state of Florida MUCH better than I do California, but that is a different story altogether) Right now I'm looking in the Pomona /Chino Hills / Clarmont / Rancho Cucamonga areas for apartments. Not sure where I will end up yet. If anyone has any tips let me know.

Cool man! Look for me at orientation. I will be the one wearing the "San Dimas High School Football Rules!!" t-shirt. :highfive:

You've got to be kidding me? I don't think there is a 'best', and if there was the school isn't going to be the "best" in a couple years. You do realize in a couple years (meaning 2 years) that they won't even have their first graduating class? So how is one to call a school the best when they have no residency placement or graduating class?

And by saying one school isn't the best doesn't mean I'm calling my school the best. Does Western have the potential to be an awesome school down the road? Absolutely. Is Western going to be the 'best' school in 2 years? No.

Forgive me for my excitement for the program I will be attending and the poor choice and use of the word "best". I know that there is no "best" school. All of the schools have good points and not so good points. I do believe that I chose the "best" school for me though. Before the interview at Western I thought that another school was the "best". I'm glad that I didn't listen to the opinions of others and base my school decision on hearsay. I thought it was very important to interview at all of the schools that I was even remotely interested in and happy that I did. I felt that Western would be a good fit for me and after my interview I really wanted to go there.

hmmmm..... Best....... couple..... semantics, semantics, semantics

Anyway, sorry for the rant.

In closing, spo01, you are right there is no 'best' podiatry school. They will all give you a good education if you apply yourself and study hard. Pre-pods just need to pick the flavor they like and dig into it.

It's all good, I'm glad you're excited. I was interested in Western at one point and wanted to go to Cali but it meant having to wait a year till they opened up. Not to mention I didn't want to be the first group. Keep us posted on how you like it.

Right now I'm looking in the Pomona /Chino Hills / Clarmont / Rancho Cucamonga areas for apartments. Not sure where I will end up yet. If anyone has any tips let me know.:

Stay away from Pomona unless you want to stay in the Helix or the Metropolitan -both are good and right beside campus.

Claremont, Rancho, and Chino Hills are all great communities and within 15-20 min driving. La Vern is also nice I hear.

A good rule of thumb is to avoid places between the 10 and the 60.

...now back to nuero...🙁
