Anyone do a year at DO while aplying MD?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Nah it's an awesome idea.

Not sure if you're serious, but why did you not just apply MD the first time?

And a follow up question to your answer of "because I couldn't get into MD so I went DO": what makes you think you will get in this time around? It's not like you continued your ECs and retook MCAT while in DO school.

Two problems with this:

1) Transferring between med schools is not like transferring between undergrad schools. It is complicated and not always possible. Additionally, since DO and MD schools have different accreditation organizations, I'd think you might have to repeat first year. Not sure on that.

2) Why take a seat at a DO school away from someone who really wanted it knowing you were going to try to transfer out in a year? Either go DO or take another year to strengthen your app and reapply MD.

screwed up AMCAS application the first time.
so is there any harm in starting DO and applying MD? if i dont get in the esecond time around, then ill just continue DO...

Is it stupid to apply MD while attending a DO school?
Oy, decisions decisions..

I really don't think it's that simple.

It will come up that you are at a DO school, and med schools don't like to poach people from other health programs.

If you start DO, getting into an MD school would be very difficult, if not impossible.

Either take the DO offer or reapply next year MD.

what does that even mean? did you make a typo and convince yourself that is why you didn't get in? did you say you wanted to go to med school for the money? did you not submit any LORs?

You should know the answer to your question, especially after seeing similar idiotic-type questions since you joined these forums.

I honestly wonder if someone has ever successfully transferred from a DO to an MD school in the entire history of medical education. About the only way this might be remotely possible is that you need medical care that the MD program is near and your DO program is too far. You have a sick family member near the MD school you need to help out and the DO school is too far away. Something along those lines.

What would you give as a reason in a transfer interview? I want different letters after my name?

I agree. MD programs will be reluctant to take you away from a DO. It shows that you were not committed. How do they know you have your mind made up this time, and that you won't go become a firefighter or military pilot a year later? (Two very respectable professions btw)

ya true, i was just curious. DO or MD either way you're saving lives 🙂

Your picture doesn't really make sense. If indeed the OP is a troll, why wouldn't OP be on the screen? Since the person in the picture with a troll head is taking a position of authority, it would seem that you are in fact the troll. Just sayin..

In addition to this probably not being possible, it is also an incredibly expensive decision to make. I'm almost positive if you switched schools you'd have to start again as an MS-1 (since you are unlikely to have a really compelling reason to transfer, you'd need to pretend that you aren't attending a DO school). That works out to maybe $50,000 for the extra year of medical school and maybe $200,000 for one lost year of a physician's salary. So it's super expensive for no real gain, since MD and DO are equivalent degrees.

it's possible if you have a very good reason, but not likely. It is not likely that you would be able to find a good enough reason when it's really just because you want to

Overanalysis of 4chan pictures is overanalyzed.

where is bleargh's avatar when you need it!!!
so a blonde, brunette, and a redhead are chased into a dark alley by a thug. the alley is empty except for three burlap sacs, so they each hide in one. the thug gets to the alley and sees the sacs. he goes over the one the brunette is in, and kicks the sac. the brunette goes "meow meow," so the thug says, "this must be a bag of kittens." he goes over to the next one and kicks it, so the redhead goes "woof woof," and the thug says, " this must be a bag of puppies." he goes over to the last sac, and kicks it.

so the blonde goes, "POH-TAY-TOH"

😍 That has been my favorite blonde joke for YEARS.

It's worse than that even. The year of income that you lose is from the end of your career, which is your highest-earning period.
