Just wanted to see if anyone is gonna be apart from their significant other for part or all of school. I know my gf and I will be apart for 1 year. Kinda sucks, but at least I'll be busy.

I am done pharmacy school now. But me and my gf were apart for 3 years. Not a big deal, particularly if she is busy. More of an issue if you are busy and she is not, so she goes out, while you stay and study, that may cause problems. Also you should be able to see each other at least once a month, depending on what's imp to you, maybe even as soon as q 2 weeks.

hi!

i just finished my first year and i was in a long distance relationship... and i will be for the next 3 years! i'm currently in school in boston and my bf is in oakland... 🙁 however, it hasn't been as bad as i expected. you just need really good communication, trust and faith in each other... 😀

It can be a tough go. I hope that for all of you it works out just fine..

My gf is about to start her second year of RX school and I'm currently a third year in medical school. It's tough b/c we are both so busy that even when we are together we have stuff that needs to be done. Luckily for us we are only separated by a 1.5 hour drive.

my bf and i were 800 miles apart last year. it sucked. really really sucked. i tried breaking up with him a couple times because it was so hard. but we got through it and now he'll only be 100 miles away, which is still LDR but not as bad as last year.

i'm going into my 1st yr too with a long dist, my bf will be in so. cali and i'll be in nor. cali. hopefully it won't be too bad. it's nice/inspiring to hear other couples that are doing the long dist! if other ppl can make,... there's still hope for us too right right justin_od? good luck with your 1st yr apart!

I'm just entering my 2nd year in end of september ( uw starts pretty late).

And I can say this. I didn't have one going into first year, but I did meet someone first year who, well, couldve been a potential. He was a poli sci major (undergrad) at the same U, and a fellow dj. Yet we were both sooooo busy, even living 15 minutes from each other (by bus) we hardly got to see each other, and after 8 months of trying it all came crashing down

I will admit though its different if you're going into first year with a committed relationship ALREADY established, versus trying to start a new one.

And I also admit I was busier than most as I took a very active role in our umbrella organization.

So I guess it depends on the situation and you, but from what I've heard from fellow classmates, its definitely do-able. 🙂

i have a girlfriend who is doing a PhD in U of Illinois, and I am in 4 year PharmD in temple. it is far, i do not know how it is going to work out yet, but nothing was really said about us being breaking up and stuff. i think i am going to take one day at a time see how this really works.

Not to rain on everyone's parade - but when school started for us last year, four people (that I know of) ended up getting divorced almost immediately. This may be due to the stress of pharmacy school, the long distance relationship, or just the fact that people can grow apart after a certain amount of time. Even if you think you have a strong relationship, attending school 1000 miles away from "home" and finding yourself (separate from the you in the "couple") can make things really hard to stay together. I know, because I'm one of them. It may seem like the worst thing in the world to break up, but things in the end always seem to work out for the best. I wouldn't stress too much about the LD relationship thing, it's very couple-specific, as there are a few students in my class enduring the LD thing.
