Anyone else hear from Royal College about an interview?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I got a lovely email on Friday that I was accepted for an interview! WOW- so early...anyone else?

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
When is your interview? Are you flying to London, or are they holding interviews in the states?
I applied there, I haven't heard anything but it is so exciting that the process is starting!

Wow! Congrats.

Looks like its time to start the "Official Interview Invites c/o 2015" thread!

I believe I was accepted as well! I received no notification of an interview needed... but about a reception to be taken place early next year. Do you think I may have missed something? Or does anyone know if Royal ever bypasses the interview process?

At my RVC interview there was a lunch and a presentation, is that maybe what the email was about? I'm pretty sure that RVC requires an interview. If not, congrats!

And cookiethecat: some of the people in my year started getting their invites around this time. Congrats to you too!!

I'm still in shock actually!
I'm thinking about going to London to interview, instead of NY. RVC is my #1 choice and I want to do anything that would increase my chances...thoughts?

Trying to find an excuse to take a trip to London, eh? 😉

I would do the interview in NY. I had a great time, and there were US graduates there that had a lot of information about the school. I don't think traveling all the way here would increase/decrease your chances. Go in with a solid, positive attitude. It's not a hard interview, and when they say they're just having a discussion about your experience and your opinions, it really is just that. Very laid-back. As long as you're prepared mentally, you'll be fine. I really enjoyed my interview and it helped me be calm for my other interviews.

But yeah. RVC is pretty awesome. 😀

thank you for the advice!

i'm excited/eager to know NOW of course...but taking the action of applying and letting go, *hopefully* will be okay. I'm happy to hear that you like RVC- one question ( not part of my letting go)...but when did they accept you?!

I got a verbal unofficial invite to attend the school right after the little lunch/presentation they had on the day of my interview. I got the official email a day later. Some people in my particular year (I'm in the 4-year accelerated course...we're the first group of US students they've let do the course) got asked to attend the same day as the interview. Most people got an email or snail mail about it a few days to a few weeks later.

what is the % of people interviewing vs. acceptance rate?

geez I should let go! Just excited!

I'm so excited for you guys! I visited London this past summer and fell in love with it! I would love to go to RVC but feel that the odds of my acceptance are so slim I don't know if I will apply or not 🙁

WOW! Congratulations! Lucky that you won't be twiddling thumbs quite as long as the rest of us 😉

Just had a question. did you have to take the GRE biology to apply?? I didn't apply to school because I think I needed to take it and didn't have enough time to study 🙁

No, that's a new requirement. :/ I just took the general GRE.

As for the percentage of acceptance, no idea. Your guess is as good as mine.

OneDay81: apply anyway!! You never know. I thought I didn't have a shot at all, and I'm in my third week here.

Hi,

I was wondering if you guys are being interviewed for the 4-year or the 5-year program?

Hi,

I was wondering if you guys are being interviewed for the 4-year or the 5-year program?

I believe it's the 5 year program. The e-mail says I'll be interviewing for the BVetMed...I just submitted the application through vmcas, and there was no supplemental, so I don't think I ever had a choice between a 4 year or 5 year program.

You're probably up for both. I submitted via VMCAS last year. When I went into my interview, I figured I'd get the regular 5 year course, but I ended up getting into the accelerated BVetMed. If you have a strong science background (degree in Biology or Animal Science) and good stats, then you're up for both. The main difference is that the first year (Graduate year) of the Accelerated course is everything in the first 2 years for the 5-year course. If you pass the Graduate year (hopefully I will...), then you enter with the rest of the BVetMed students at year 3.

Just got the preliminary email inviting me to interview!! Ahhhh 😀

Just got my preliminary email for an Interview, as well. An ya, I submitted my application late, actually, so I just emailed them my info from VMCAS. I am not really sure if I am being considered for the 4 year or the 5 years program, but I guess it doesn't really matter as long as I get to become a vet 😀

I wonder how many people they interview. I know that there is no way they could have gotten all my application materials by now, and so I am a little concerned that they have already Invited me. Taking a trip to CA or NY will be a huge financial burden.

Guess we will see 🙂 Congrats to everyone who has received emails so far!

I received an e-mail October 6 stating that I was invited to attend their NY reception in January/February. Is this where the interview takes place? Also, they indicated that I was offered a place by their Admissions Tutor on their 4 year accelerated degree starting Sept. 2011, so don't know if you can go for either?? Congratulations to everyone!

Are you sure you were offered a place already, Caromax? To the best of my knowledge, the RVC always interviews before making an offer to an applicant.

What exactly does your email say? Mine said that I was being invited to interview but that the days and places weren't set yet. Basically they indicate that interviews will be held in California and New York in late January or early February and that they will send more info for scheduling later. I haven't heard about anyone being accepted without an interview, so I am curious to hear if that is indeed the case!

Copied from the e-mail:
"Thank you for your application for entry to the BVetMed programme at the RVC. We were very impressed with your application, and I am pleased to be able to inform you that the Admissions Tutor would like to offer you a place on our four year accelerated degree starting in September 2011.
A full offer pack will be sent to you in the near future and we would like to invite you to attend one of our evening receptions which we are holding in New York and California in late January/early February. Once all the details have been confirmed (including exact dates and locations) we will send you more information. However, it would be helpful if you could indicate whether you think you will be able to attend and whether you would prefer to go to the New York or the California event.
As a 'Fast Track' applicant you will automatically be considered for a scholarship (please see http://www.rvc.ac.uk/Undergraduate/International/Finance.cfm). The final decision on who has been awarded a scholarship will take place mid February.
If you are planning on visiting London at any time please let me know as we would be delighted to meet you and would be able arrange tours of both of our campuses."

She didn't mention an interview, but I'm guessing like you guys say that I should be prepared to have one. I'm a little confused myself.

That is the same email I received this morning from RVC. I assumed it meant I was offered a position pre-interview as well. Does anyone have any information on the "fast-track" program they mention here?

Congrats! I guess they are accepting some people without interviews this year. You guys must have VERY impressive stats! 😀

BTW: if any of you guys end up coming to London to visit the school, get in touch with me! I'll let you guys know how the 4 year program is going and have you meet some other US students here (and let you grill us for info!).

That sounds fantastic, thanks so much lei325! Where are you from originally if you don't mind me asking? Was it hard for you to adapt to London life? And how expensive???

I'm originally from Rhode Island. So far, so good with London life. My first trip to the supermarket (Sainsbury's) was a little overwhelming and I managed to pick up the most random food, but subsequent trips have been fine. You definitely get a bit of culture shock at first, but after a while you get used to it. The whole other side of the road bit was weird, and you have to get used to looking the "wrong" way when crossing the road, but they usually have "Look Left/Right" on the street to help. It is quite expensive here, food and otherwise, but if you really keep track, it's easy to stay within a small budget. I took out the max I could this year in loans just so I had a little breathing room and wouldn't need to worry about money. I'll probably take out less for the remaining years. 🙂

Wow, that's awesome! Congrats to those of you accepted without interview!!

I only visited Sains & Costco at first, & it took a while to adjust to thinking Tesco was a grocery store (not sure why). The Chinese supermarket I found a few weeks ago is AMAZING.

I can second the culture shock... It took a while to figure out certain things like food pronunciation (oregano and basil are pronounced SO differently here), zucchini = courgette, cilantro = corriander, molasses = treacle, etc. And thank goodness Costco sells whole coffee beans. Traffic running on the other side of the road and not getting hit wasn't too hard to get used to (pedestrians DON'T have the right of way EVER).

Some things are cheaper here than California. Maybe London is more expensive? Spices are VERY cheap and a loaf of bread is super cheap as well. Produce is sometimes more expensive though. Eggs are definitely more expensive (makes it hard to want to bake goodies). 🙁

BTW I'm in Scotland at the Royal Dick Vet, peaking around at the UK threads popping up now. 🙂
Hope you guys consider going to school in the UK. It's fantastic and a completely new experience for me. I wouldn't have traded my seat for any other seat in a US school.

Lei do you have the same testing schedule with (basically) a final exam at the end of the module and no quizzes/tests in between? I think it's much better than tests and quizzes every week/day. Revision week is my best friend now.

I just checked my spam (which I never do!) on a whim and found an email from RVC "I am writing to confirm that the Admissions Tutors were very impressed with your application and have offered you a place without you having to attend an interview. "

WOW!! I think I may have missed a prior email from reading the other posts... but it looks like they are doing some acceptances w/out interviews. Anyone else who was accepted- did they say anything about the next step- dates to accept/deny etc. And what are you going to do? I can't believe how early it is. I won't hear from other schools for months! What a relief to have some early feedback though.

Congrats and good luck to everyone!

Yeah, I have that schedule too. 3 modules, first two have a 25 question MCQ exam worth 5% each, then a huge cumulative exam (a 2 hr MCQ, a 3 hr PSQ, and a 3 hr essay) in the summer worth 90%. Do or die...?

And congrats rsloan!

I submitted a late app to RVC. They received everything except one letter from an evaluator (in all likelihood he forgot to send it.) So they have 2 recommendation letters for me. Do they require 3 letters? I don't think its completely necessary and I'd rather not bother him if I don't have to.
Thanks.

That's something I'd email admissions about, because I'm fairly certain they require 3 letters.

I figured. I already emailed the evaluator so hopefully he'll send it soon. Its just been a long few months of pestering people to meet deadlines.

I got an interview by email and all they told me was that it would be in January or February in either New York or California but they never told me where and when yet. How is one supposed to book a motel/flight if they don't know where to go?

to my knowledge they do require 3, however they sent me an interview invitation before they had gotten any of mine. Infact, to my knowledge, they still only have 1 ( the other two have had some craziness lately). to be honest my GPA/GRE were not that strong, so I am blown away that they sent me an invitation invite, even without my Lor's.
BTW everyone that got the email stating they didnt have the date for interviews, yet, I got the email today that has the dates nailed down. so check your spam 🙂

now I am thinking about getting on a plane and visiting before they come to the US and interview everyone else...you think that will help?!

If you haven't done too much international travel I'd be sure to get there a few days before your interview if you plan to go (especially if you are coming from west coast US). I definitely feel the 8 hour time difference between London and California each time I go for a couple of days. You'd hate be be snoring during the interview.

I would do whatever is cheapest, which I'm guessing is interviewing in the states. 🙂 Nothing is a sure thing, so traveling across the pond for the interview may not even help you. Plus, whatever you save by interviewing here could be put towards trips home once you're in. 😉

With that said, a trip over there could be really cool if you get an opportunity to see both campuses of the school and get a feel for things.

Who all is attending the January 27th reception in NYC??

They do interviews in both NY and Cali. You have the ability to choose either, depending on where you live, but you'll be able to pick which city you prefer. This is what they do every year. Don't worry too much yet. 🙂

any SDNers going for an interview on the 24th? It is the day after my birthday, and ironically I am going to be 24 (I am getting so old 😛).

Ps. despite my interview invite, I am still freaking out, my boyfriend applied as well... he actually is the one that talked me into applying to RVC when they reopened their app pool. Couldn't hurt right?! Well he has not heard yet... does anyone think there is still hope/time?! It is already December. He's not panicking. I am. He might kill me that I am posting this... haha oh well.

Regardless, I am super stoaked to have gotten an interview at such an amazing school.

EDIT: don't worry too much about not hearing back after you already got an invite, took them a while to respond to my dates that I chose. They are undergoing a switch in the admissions council or something, and I am sure whoever is taking over is swamped... so relax, you already got the important email! You will hear soon.

Who all is attending the January 27th reception in NYC??

I'm going that day!....I wanted to go there earlier in the week but they picked neither a day nor time that I requested. Whatever, I'd clear pretty much anything off of my schedule for this.

Edit: Just saw on another thread you were accepted. congrats! I'll be there earlier in the day for an interview.

So I'm attending the interview on January 26th in New York. Is anyone else going then? What are you doing about housing arrangements? I'm actually from the Midwest so both California and New York were equally as far away for me.

So my previous fear of my boyfriend not getting an interview at RVC quickly vanished today...
he got ACCEPTED! So very excited for him but now so very nervous for my own interview. I did not realize they were doing this... better step up my game now for my interview, whew a couple months away and I am already sweating profusely.

Anyone interviewing in San Luis Obispo? Mine is scheduled for February 1st! So nervous... :barf:

I'm interviewing in Cali as well! I'm Feb 2nd in the morning... Have you booked a hotel in the area?
