I have been accepted to my top two choices: Temple and DMU. I liked Temple much more than I thought I would and I didn't find DMU as appealing as I thought I would (not to imply that I think it is bad in any way - it is still a great school). DMU offered more of a scholarship.

Anyone else trying to make a decision??

I had that same dilema. I analyzed each school I was accepted to like crazy looking at every point. I made lists of positives and negatives and it still was hard because all schools have their strengths and weaknesses. What it came down to was going with my gut feeling after all this analysis. It was hard but I feel i made the right decision. If you have any questions about things in particular that also helped me choose, you can send a private message to me. hope this helps

I always suggest going w/ your gut. All of the stats and bragging in the world doesn't matter if you don't feel comfortable in the program. You will successful at either program, if you choose to be.

You have to go with what feels right for you.

I couldn't agree more. A school is what you make of it, but at the end of the day, you have to be happy going there (you will be doing that for 4 yrs lol)
All in all, I know I'm simply restating what the others wrote but, follow your gut and it wont steer you wrong!

Good luck and let us know how it turns out 🙂

After nearly 24 hrs of delays that consisted of our plane breaking down on the runway about to leave Des Moines, and having to spend an extra night in Des Moines, I finally made it back home last night. I don't think Iowa wanted me to leave 😡

Overall, I have to say that I was impressed with the school and the resources that were available. All of the buildings were new and students seemed to be happy and friendly there. Cost of living is cheap too compared to Cali. 👍 On top of that, after coming home and checking the mail last night, I received an acceptance package from AZPOD 😀 Now I am completely torn between all 3 schools I interviewed at (CSPM, AZPOD, CPMS). I really like AZPOD and CPMS but what's holding me back is the gf is planning to go to nursing school near Oakland so I am stuck between a hard rock right now. I know that you really only need to stay in the area for 3 yrs and can go anywhere for the 4th yr. Anyone have any opinions or comments? Any of the current pod students had this problem or did you guys just marry your gf/bfs haha. On top of that, I have to respond to Oakland by this next friday too 😕

I guess it depends on how serious you are with your girlfriend!

I am from Arizona and only about 20 minutes from AZPOD. I heard that it wasn't that great of a school but some posts here say that it is pretty good. I also heard that because it is new it is pretty weak. I just want to know what you guys think about it. I am actually in Utah so I cant really visit it right now. Thanks! And when did they get accredited? I just saw that!

I can tell you from experience that having a significant other with you while your in school can be a blessing. It all depends on how serious you two are. You will get anywhere you want going to any school. If you end up going to Cali, dont worry about not getting good residencies, Cali is full of them. I hear Kaiser is a big into Podiatry.

AZPOD is not fully accredited; it is in the candidate accreditation status. I feel it is a good school, but like you said it is new. Therefore, the quality is speculation. They did well last year on the 1st part of the boards, but the first class, as AZPOD students have stated on SDN, lost a lot of students. I think AZPOD once said that the students that are left have unbelievable admissions stats.

Well, if you mean a 100% first time board pass rate this year and the toughest basic science curriculum in the country isn't "that great," then I guess you could be correct. New? Yes. Weak because it is new? I think every single residency director who has visited our program considers AZPOD to be one of the strongest schools. In fact, a former chief resident at INOVA (considered by many to be the top surgical residency in the country) who is now a director called us "the Millenium Falcon of podiatric education."

It would be interesting to know who you talked to about our program and what kind of background they have with AZPOD. I'll bet they don't really have much of a background at all. Nevertheless, I am sure you are always welcome to come and check us out. If you talk to Dr. Jenkins, he would probably be willing to set up a tour for you.

Good Luck,

I have been advising for the past 4 years. The best advice I can give from the experienc ei have had is (and I know it has probably been said already) you have to determine what you want. The next stpe is going to be a dramtic change in life. Studying for the chosen career of podiatric medicine.
Weigh your options. If you have a significant other in life, how much will distance affect you both if he/she decides not to follow you.

You really have to sit down and talk to yourself. If you feel that you are not ready to leave your significant other or are uncertain the time is right to go to the program you want, its okay to take time off to figure out whats next. Do not rush into something if there are doubts or large obstacles you see ahead that have not been dealt with yet. Most schools offer defement programs as well. Take your time, easier said than done, but it makes a huge difference.

AZPOD Rocks:

It sounds like you are pretty hard core about AZ given your name. That makes me happy to hear what you said about the AZ school. I would prefer to stay in AZ and hopefully that will be the case. I actually had a friend from Mesa that went to the school and checked it out before deciding to go to New York. He said it wasn't that great but that was a while ago. To tell you the truth, I think you are a more reliable source for current info on the matter. From what you have said, it sounds pretty appealing and I am glad that you told me what you think. I hope to go down there soon and I will definately check it out.

thanks
