Hey guys,

I am a new SDN member, and I know exactly how all of you feel...I took the MCAT in August (BIG MISTAKE! Didn't realize taking it late would hurt my application so much!) and am still waiting to hear from schools. In retrospect, I should have applied to more out-of-state schools, since the Texas schools started the process earlier than did AMCAS...Anyhow, I have only received an interview invitation from UT-Houston so far. I am praying that I hear back from other Texas schools soon! This is so stressful!!! Good luck, everyone!

The echidna is the lesser well known of the two oviparous (egg-laying) mammals that still exist, the other being the duck-billed platypus. They are native to Australia. They're a pretty random animal, but I like them.

Here is a picture of a baby echidna. They're called puggles.

I can now go to sleep happy, even though I received no interviews today. My biggest pet peeve is the anthropomorphizing of food in commercials--e.g., when the prepared sandwhich in the fridge starts waxing poetic about Miracle Whip.

Shy, I am on the verge of tears here (unusual for me since the alcohol usually numbs the pain). I am seeing all these August MCATers getting notification from some of the same schools as me and I have not received anything! Not a word! And of course I am too nervous to call any (except Loyola on Thursdays--their call-in day) of the schools.

I just feel like I was so wrong to go into this process thinking "well, they have to take SOME mediocre applicants" because clearly the answer is "no, they don't." I just know if I received an interview I would be able to convey that I would be a great doctor with excellent clinical skills--a trait that doesn't show up on the MCAT. Sigh, big sigh.

They DO take some "average" applicants. And as long as they haven't sent you that letter stamped "NO", then you're still in the running. Just on the back burner. It's like cooking a fine sauce - the best ones in the end are the ones that simmer slowly on the back burner and are taken off last.

Every day without a rejection is another day we're possibly being reviewed for an invite. 🙂 🙂 🙂

gd, you have no idea what you're missing. I make sugar cookie candy canes with royal icing, pennies from heaven with rum butter filling, stained glass cookies with delicate colored sugar "windows" in the middle of the cookie, five different kinds of chocolate cookie, plain spritz cookies, ginger cookies, peanut wafers that are rather like a soft peanut brittle cookie, a to-die-for pumpkin muffin with cheesecake filling, and a brownie with cinnamon cheesecake in the middle that I've actually (truly) had men offer me their wedding rings for.

Not to even mention the cakes (I'm dying to try a fabulous 30 layer cake of vanilla crepes and lemon creme filling), jelly rolls, cream puffs, etc. And the pies - homemade banana cream pie with real whipped cream on top, lemon meringue, apple pie with cheddar cheese pie crust, blueberry pie (I like this one a bit tart and not very sweet), pumpkin pie (with a bit extra nutmeg)... I think this year I'll make a three-berry pie.

I'll let your tastebuds just dream for a while on that.
