I'm actually calling the post office because I haven't gotten any mail, NONE AT ALL, since before Thanksgiving. No junk mail, no catalogs, no nothing. This is highly unusual, I usually get tons. Obviously, I don't care about that stuff, but yikes! If something's wrong with the delivery and there's a med school letter lost out there...

I know. I think it feels worse just because we used to have a great mailman. He would deliver things with the wrong address to the right place, etc. Then they took him off of our route and gave us a chimp - and not one of those smart chimps that can peel bananas with its feet either.

Plus, we live in an old kind of ghettoy apartment complex. The mailbox next to mine hasn't had a door on it for the past 4 months, and you could reach into our box through that door. Sketchy. We finally got them to fix it; the box doesn't belong to anyone it's just an extra. But now I'm worried maybe some of my mail is in there and I can't get to it. 😡

Well, it is so ghettoy that there isn't a belltower. 🙄 But yeah, considering the amount of issues there are with our apartment, I'm amazed I haven't. There has been lots and lots of yelling at the maintenance crew though. I won't bore you with the details here, but just trust me, if you ever have to move to Maryland, never ever ever ever live at Springhill Lake.

The major gang calls themself 'Da Lake Boyz. But at least I can tell people "I live at 'Da Lake."

As an update to the mail situation...

So yesterday I called the post office regarding the non-delivery of any mail since 11/23. They said they'd contact my local office and get back to me tomorrow. Well, when I got home last night I was, shall we say "suprised" to find both rows of mailboxes of my complex on the floor. These are the kind of mail boxes that are imbedded in the wall in two rows and the mail man turns a key in each row so they lean out and he puts the mail in from the top.

So after staring at the exposed brick behind where the mailboxes ought to be, and noting there was no mail in any of the boxes, I realized I had probably found the problem.

I called the post office and they have all our mail. They didn't leave a note or anything about why they haven't been delivering. ARG! We have to pick it up from the post office until the apartment complex fixes it - which will probably take forever.

I wish I'd just gotten a P.O. box for everything now.

don't most interview invites come via email anyways? i only know of a few schools that send their stuff via snailmail.

i am so depressed today guys... came home from work to find another rejection, from albany med.
this is my fourth rejection, i'm an april mcater and applied relatively early, and only have one interview that came like almost a month ago, and no encouragement from my one state school either!

i know we are all in the same boat here but i am starting to feel like i am not going to make it this cycle. hearing nothing but no news and/or rejections just saps all the fight right out of you.

lucky for me i applied to like 20 schools so i guess i have 15 more rejections to look forward to.

I'm in the same situation, and I was surprised when I got Albany's rejection because of how SDN made it sound like such a safety school that anyone could get in to. Yeah, right...

ok, so now it is past midnight where i am, which means it is technically "tomorrow."
so a day has passed and i am still just as depressed!

"yesterday": after my rejection letter i went and bought a huge piece of chocolate fudge cake and ate the whole thing and skipped my workout.
"4 hours later, tomorrow/today": of course am feeling just as horrible and depressed, only now i am a FAT depressed rejectee. actually i think i am even more depressed after the chocolate cake.

This year I at least got one interview so far. So I'm doing FAR better. And the last MCAT I took was August 2004. Last year seriously sucked nasty wet monkey patties.

Now *I*'m looking forward to receiving my Vermont and Drexel rejections soon! I'm going to place them in the fireplace with the other rejections one by one and watch them burn. Perhaps I'll toast marshmallows over the flames. Make s'mores with the heat from the burning of the rejections letters to come. Anyone want to come join me? 🙂

You guys are great! I know this is a depressing thread at times, but I think we all have a really great sense of humor, and by sharing little tidbits like this, we help each other smile! ShyRem, I am cheering for you! Funny! I was there a while ago, left in 1998. I was in the PhD program in medical anthropology. There was no "anthro" option on the MDapp's drop box, so psch/soc sci was my closest choice.

I miss the cheese fries at the White Rock Yacht Club. I used to live over there by the lake on a house on Peavy.

Arg.. just got an "On hold" email from Maryland. Apparently, they want me to grovel more. No love from the state school yet. I should never have moved out of NY state.

My one interview is at USUHS - and I'm not even sure I am willing to go that route. I would feel WAY more comfortable to have at least one more at a "normal" med school. 😡

I'm still here and lurking but all my attention is invested at the "Look I created two threads..." which was soon hijacked into a discussion about baked goods. Delicious thread and I believe I gained weight just by reading and looking at the pics there.

I am still waiting for the "official thin letter invite" from Drexel. It just doesn't seem official without it and I must have solid, tangible proof since Drexel's office (very nice people by the way) occassionally make mistakes. When are you interviewing at Drexel? I set up a date into the wee days of March.
