My Taiwanese friends told me they always study in KFC/McDonald's/Starbucks so it gave me the idea. I'm about to go setup shop in Chipotle and study the day away (along with eating many burritos).

I do light studying in Starbucks (like reviewing anki cards/building decks) but fast food restaurants are way too noisy/dirty for my liking.

Yes, all the time. Background noise is the best for me. The place I get most GOOD studying done is on the CTA (train).

IHOP was where it was at! I went to a small school and the library had crappy hours, so if we ever needed to study late night, IHOP it was!

That's a good one. Don't they have all-you-eat pancakes too? Eat a pancake every hour for a break

I don't really study at restaurants when I'm at school but at home I go to Panera every now and then to get some work done.

Almost always at Panera. Once, and never again, at the International House of Pancakes. Everything is sticky. The smell is distracting. The seat is too smushy. You look out of place with a bunch of papers, books, and laptop on your table while everyone else is dining and being normal.

More so at coffeeshop type places than an actual restaurant.

Subway is where it's at.

Especially those on or near a campus, so you don't look out of place.

There was an awesome little coffee shop near where I went to medical school. Of course it was full of med students most of the time, but a dollar for a really good iced coffee. The owners dog also basically lived at the place, and would come around to all the tables and expect the customers to pet it. Great stress relief. After 10 min, the dog would get bored with you, then move onto the next table and ask to be petted.

/someday, if I'm good. I will be reincarnated as that dog.

I personally get too easily distracted, so no. I've tried IHOP, Starbucks, Chipotle (yea never going back after the GI issues from that place wtf is wrong with them?). Usually I eat and then get the itis and don't feel like studying. In Starbucks people are always in and out, and I always gotta people watch.

Yep, in Starbucks. You see, I go to a community college, so most of the people don't study on campus. This means that I end up doing most of the grunt work at my home, but I can be found studying at a Starbucks if an exam is coming up. For some reason, it's just really relaxing; they play music quietly, and there will always be people having conversations too. It's just kind of nice to be surrounded by other humans when you know you'll be studying for a while........it makes you feel like you actually do have a life. I will admit that I have a very hard time reading textbooks when I hear other noises, but that's why most of my studying in coffee shops is exam review orientated.

What? So you guys go order food and then decide to stay there for 3 more hours to study? I think a little meet up at a Starbucks it's fine, but going to a restaurant to study seems odd to me.

Coffee certainly aids me in studying, so that makes sense to go to Starbucks. However, doesn't having a full stomach actually make people more tired? At least that's what I heard.......

Mental and physical gains brah

Denny's. I hate them, but they're open 24 hours, they have free wi-fi, and they're the only establishment where I can eat 5 pancakes and feel good because the person at the next booth ate 20.

Nutrition does impact your mood. It depends what you eat. If you eat lots clean food (vegetables, complex carbs, lean protein, fruits) = Good energetic mood. Eat dirty (pizza, lots of carbs, soda, fried food) = Lazy mood.

Edit: I thought I should add this.

No way. I study best when I'm totally alone; I get distracted fairly easily. My home office is my preferred study spot.

And once again you avatar goes with your posts (Chipotle burritos).

I tried to study at the gym once, while on the treadmill. Gave up after about 30 seconds. Two awful activities combined was just too much.

I don't understand how people do this. I can't study unless its like the 18th green on a Sunday.

I see people do this all the time at restaurants. Why would you do this. It makes no sense and it is just flat out weird.

I couldn't get any work done, personally. Too noisy and crowded. However, when my uncle was in pharmacy school, he studied every day in a busy cafe.
The access to food is tempting, though.

You'll find me on the highest floor, in the quietest, most remote corner in a wooden cubicle away from absolutely everyone.

I prefer starbucks, early in the morning before all the schmoozers set up shop. Also most public libraries and barnes an noble cafés are pretty underrated...

wouldn't that make you a schmoozer too?

Never do it at a restaurant that is busy and has a wait staff. Killing time there results in you being a tip black hole. They could be turning over that table and getting tips from people using it for the right reason.

Unless you are eating a full meal every 20 minutes or so...

You get less distracted by the Internet in public places, though? o_O

Well it does take porn out of the equation.

In undergrad I always studied in the engineering building. Cute girl in engineering building = everyone will leave you the f alone.

Starbucks is a great place to study! I like the background noise. Only problem is the tables are small (so if I need a big table, I go to the library) and I end up buying so many drinks and food!

When I'm at a cafe and there's like a hot chick across from me, I study like 10x better. Normal guys flex their arms and stuff to attract the opposite sex. But me, my brain is like "Gurl, check out these crazy mnemonics I got going on." I don't know why but my brain concentrates on studying as a way of showing off. Weird.
