I am gonna be taking the exam in two weeks and would like to know if anyone has failed or heard of anyone that has failed.. I am interested in their raw scores.. thanks..

-Anxious NYU (no time to study)😕

No time to study? At least get your hands on some old tests and memorize some answeres, even if for just a few hours. I know one person who failed but you really have to miss a lot for this to happen. BTW, why do you HAVE to take it before studying?

well , i have not had enough time b.c NYU decides to finish classes on the 30th of june and put us into clinic the weekend after until aug 3...

I haven't heard of anyone failing the new part I. From what our school has told us, the pass rate is actually higher than the old format. Anyways, don't worry about failing. Just study the best that you can with the time given. You'll do just fine if you're committed.

Good luck.

Bannyben is a complete joke...you should see the work he does in clinic...haha.

So in Mass I can get my hygiene license as long as I pass Part I (and have completed two years of dental school.) So I really want to pracitce as long as I can next summer...this may involve taking the boards super early. What if I cannot study a huge amount in the spring? Do people manage taking it earlier than their classmates? Am i setting myself up for FAILURE?!?!?! 😱

That is very cool... do other states have similar regulations?

So if you decide dentistry is not for you you can just be a hygienist after 2 years. If someone from out-of-state moved to Mass in that scenario, would his still apply to them?

Good luck I'mFillingFine!

The ADA just sets the rule that you can get a Mass hygiene license if you've completed two years, have passed the boards, and get your dean's permission. So if your school doesn't do a lot of perio until third and fourth year, your faculty may not give permission. I don't think it matters which state the school is in (though of course, the three mass schools are probably more sympathetic.)

It just sucks if I have to take the boards before everyone else! Though I really just have to pass....still, I know that's a horrible way to think.

And as for not liking dentistry, I really doubt that would happen...at least, hopefully not! You don't really get THAT much clinical exposure during the first two years at most schools, so I imagine the hygiene license thing is just to get extra practice during the summers. However, if you make it that far, you'd might as well finish! (Also, not sure a dentist would be too pleased to hire you if you didn't want to make it through, but you never know...)

I was also wondering about the pass/fail rate on the new format. My entire class passed (wahoo!) and we're working with the administration on some sort of a class reward right now.

Congrats! I was under the impression (from my dentist) that LLU doesn't have a good pass rate on boards. Maybe part II?

Hmm... maybe you're dentist knows more than me on that because I actually don't know. If we're traditionally below the national average then it's probably not by much.

I have a question. Do they separate the questions out into topics and grade them? Or do we just have to pass the whole thing?

Danny, I am very scared as well.
I did the Decks, and whatever notes we had for D1 and D2.
I did exams, and I am averaging 60-65% with the lowest section being 54%

Chris and Concetta took it last week and said it was easy though.
There was ethics questions.
