Yes I went to UWI for three years as a dental student. I wanted to do medicine, so I applied to SGU, and got in there. Anyways, so lemme tell you about UWI mount hope, if you wanna know. For the first one and half years the medicine and dental students do the same courses. I would say you would not get as much experience as you would elsewhere. You have to understand, they dont take medicine as seriously as the other US offshore medical schools. You have just one cadaver for a class of about 200or more students. And they will cram you into the lab for anatomy session. The cadaver is usually so old, that when doing the exam, the distinctive markings that should be on the bones for you to be able to decipher what you are looking at will be worn off.
The teaching is a bit scary, and much is left to the student. They do not encourage USMLE, because of course it is basically a british system so it is more geared towards going to Britain than the US. So if you have plans to go to the US you are basically on your own. You should already be able to know when you would be prepared to write those USMLE exams, and do it. I know of a few people who actually went to the US. The got into Internal medicine there. Another thing, the teaching is not as good as you may find elsewhere, and from what I have understood, the USMLE exam is a very detailed one and you have to know your work very well. So if that was a route that you wanted to go, I would say to prepare yourself for alot of self-study. And be focused. You know what you want to achieve at the end of the day. So also bring down your own US medical books and teach yourself the work. At the end of the day it will be to your benefit. This is only something I realised coming from there and being in SGU. The different expectations.
Good Luck
