I've spoken with NYCPM, as well as Barry. However, no interview yet...

Hope that helps.

I have interviews at temple, NY, and Ohio with the DAT and I do believe that there are people who have been accepted already. Has anyone had any luck applying to the schools who said they don't want DAT, but will look at your application on an individual basis? I'm now thinking I may take the MCAT later this year so I can apply to some other schools

Yeah, I plan on taking the MCAT also to increase the amount of schools I can apply too. I contacted DMU, and they told me the following:

Thank you for expressing your interest in Des Moines University! To answer your question, we may accept the DAT in lieu of the MCAT, but it is decided on a case-by-case basis by the Dean of the College. We would need to see your application, transcripts, letters of recommendation and possibly conduct an interview prior to making a final decision. I would recommend taking the MCAT if possible because the Admissions Committee does see applicants who have submitted a satisfactory MCAT score as more competitive than those who do not. We recommend that students receive a 20 or above on the MCAT. This year's incoming class received an average MCAT score of a 23.

Until next time.

Got in with a 17.

Congratulations. But I kind of wish none of the schools accepted the DAT or any other test besides the MCAT. Podiatry is not headed in the dental direction anymore, instead we are headed in the osteopath direction and I wish our admission process would reflect that.

I was thinking the exact same thing. It's the first post I've seen from Whiskers in a long time that 1)made sense 2)had some truth to it

Got an interview at barry with a 19 DAT, hope that's enough

thanks,
i got a 19;
until i posted this thread I didn't think it was enough;
now after reading your posts, looks like it is.
thanks everyone,
dan

Osteopath? Who told you that..:meanie:

Podiatry is podiatry, i dont think they teach you OMM in pod school. Two different fields, bud.

However I do agree, Pod schools should make it mandatory that MCATs are the required assessment; the DATs and GREs should be phased out.

Actually we were taught OMM of the lower extremity at DMU and we can perfrom it and bill for it just like an osteopath. Glad I could enlighten you, bud.

got asked to interview at DMU, barry, and new york. DMU said that they accept people with DATs on a case to case basic

Dat 19. Got interviews at OCPM, NYCPM, Barry, and Temple. Went to NYCPM and Temple interviews, accepted to both, scholarships to both, chose Temple. You'll be fine.

got in with a 19 at barry

I got a conditional acceptance to OCPM. Be careful if you apply here with a DAT score. They are looking at a DAT score of 20 or higher. I got a 19 and I was told that once I send in my fall grades they will make a determination of whether or not I need to take the MCAT or at least a GRE subject test. So if your a former pre-dent with a low DAT score don't hope for a lot of love from OCPM. They are extremely nice and the new building is awesome but as with any professional school the entrance scores needed to gain acceptance are getting higher and higher.

What do I know. Nobody that applies to Pod school was a pre-dent, right?

The same thing happened to one of this person I interviewed with. He was put on the 5 yr program because he took the DAT.

Interestingly, he did fairly well on the DAT also.

This kind of makes me sick honestly. People are working hard to let it be known that our students are on par with medical school students. Some schools REQUIRE that you take the MCAT now, and I applaud that. Most, if not all, prefer that you take it over the DAT, so just take the stinking MCAT. Do things the right way. Show people we belong on the same level as everyone else in the medical community (which most educated people already realize we are). I guess my point is why not do the little things to make sure this is occurring. People are always ripping on the entrance requirements for podiatry school, so lets try and make them a little more impressive. I mean....the DAT? Come on. At least take the right test.

aww someone's mad that they didnt take the DAT

I had the same issue when interviesing at OCPM I had a 18 DAT and they told me I had to take the MCAT but i did however get a conditional acceptance. I wouldn't be surprised if next year they accept the MCAT only as a standardized test for applying. Since at most interviews they say"you are applying to medical school not dental school.

are you considering on attending OCPM?
would they still reject you if you dont meet the mcat requirements, after you deposit?

just wondering.

I was going to ask one of my friends this, but i didnt want to make him feel any worse.

No I'm a Pennsylvania resident. I live right outside of Philly and went to Temple Undergrad, having a big part to do with my decision.
