anyone get into harvard with a low gpa?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just don't get why every pre-med is so damn obsessed with Harvard.

They have this stigma that they're the best and everyone want's to go there but I haven't seen a single thing to support that they have a good medical education program... just reputation and US News rankings.

I lost that obsession quickly when they rejected me for UG. Bastards.

I am framing my rejection letter. I will then proceed to hang it next to my Nobel Prize, for when I discover the cure of some disease.

Take that, Harvard!!

😳

but I DID NOT apply there...u know...I was so suprised to receive a rejection letter from them...

You subconsciously applied. Whatever that means.

i don't think being acknowledged as the gold standard in higher ed counts as a "stigma", but the funny thing is, a lot of harvard students do see it as a stigma. they are usually the one's that say "i went to school in boston" or "back east" - which, to me, is much more pretentious than coming out and saying "i went to harvard."

It was to show you how much they did NOT want you. I mean, the adcoms were sitting there thinking "Taty didn't apply this year, but let's send her a rejection letter just in case that she ever gets crazy ideas into her head and starts thinking that we might want her in our fancy-pants school. Let's just get it straightened-out now. We do NOT want Taty at our school."

Hmm, I must have pissed you off somehow. Was it that discussion over in Allo? Are you really fat, and my jokes hit a nerve?

Excellent play on my screen name, though I would have gone with "Tired-ass", it has a little stronger visual effect.

And for the record little man, I haven't been a premed since 2003.

Damn dude did you give up your dream of becoming a doctor...sorry to hear that...best of luck in whatever career you have decided to pursue.

Are you mexican, black, or native-american? If so, you have a realistic shot. If you don't believe me, check out mdapps. 👍

hehe I thought the same. My all family was cracking up...🙂

those are my favorite. I press the issue until they stop beating around the bush. Then I finish the rest of the conversation with a horrible fake bostonian accent.

But then again, I pretty much exist for the sole purpose of creating awkward social situations....had to fight the urge to try a british accent during one of my interviews...

Personally I think the upward trend is not as influential as most people think. The fact is that it takes a human to look at your app and see this trend, the computer will look at you cumulative GPA and give you a secondary based on that. The average GPA of an accepted Harvard applicant is 3.8. Unless your cumulative GPA is above 3.6, you probably don't have a good shot. You MCAT also needs to be more than just 30 or higher, especially to help out with that GPA. You need at least a 34, and that's if your GPA was good (3.8).

Let's hope you can articulate yourself better than this in an interview because frankly I have no idea what you meant.

A word of advice - on your application don't use acronymns without explaining them. Its hard to access your ECs without knowing how long you participated in each one.

why don't u practice inferring. a word of advice. if u want people to be open to ur advice, don't be a hard-ass.

Oh, you'll like this then. You should start smelling girls' hair in bars. Like pick up a handful and inhale it, real subtle-like. They LOVE it.

sweet! I could alternate that with "feeling the material" of their clothing. "mmmm cashmere...."

I so hope you end up on one of my ward teams some day.

Well we'll see later in this upcoming app cycle if you are indeed right.

But seeing as how you are wrong about so many things you post, I am going to bet against you.

As far as I'm concerned you are just another "Tired" ass premed who feels they know everything there is to know about the app process.

Ummmmmmmm...puta...you don't know mierda!!!

😆😆😆😆😆

Who would want to go Harvard when there is Yale?

I so hope you end up on one of my ward teams some day.

Yeah...I'm looking forward to it. You'll be run down by me.

Just tell where you'll be and I'll make sure I do everything in my power to be there giving you HELL...but of course your hell would be me exceeding in everything you throw at me!!!!...Oh mierda, I can't wait for that day!

why harvard anyway? is it that you jusy want a good rep? why not focus on the real reason why u want to be a physician and go to a school where you will get extensive clinical training and not have to worry about cocky patients not wanting to be seen my medical students and residents?

Anyone else notice this?

This is clearly a dilemma most premeds face (according to your status)…...🙄

And for the $64,000 question....did this person get into HMS?

Not even Nick Naylor's troll MDapps got into Harvard.

D'oh! 👎

OP, I think you need some unadulterated perspective. It's hard enough to get into ANY medical school with a low GPA. But HARVARD?

edit: lolz I need to learn to read good. Didn't see the date.

There is no point to applying to harvard with anything less than a 3.8. Im pretty sure they haven't even interviewed anyone with less than 3.5. These big schools are too concerned with their reputation to give people like us a chance. The world isn't fair OP. Sorry to break it to you.

I feel like this is BS, but THIS guy got into HMS and some other amazing schools with a 3.46 cGPA and 31 MCAT.

Funny stuff guys. Harvard is a long shot. I have a distant Nigerian uncle with a 4.0 overalla nd science gpa, 3.5 years research experience, standard clinical exposure.......did not even get an interview. I still believe that they are very exclusive in terms of race and background.

If only he was a Nigerian Prince who wanted to sling a few million dollars at the adcoms if they could help him out real quick...
