A lot of people have gotten it if they got accepted to the school's on the list. It's not a scam. For some it's $150, for others its $250. Not sure why.

I got it too, and it's not a scam. For price, I think it varies depending on what state you live in, as some states cost more than others. For me, I live in Pennsylvania, and so for mine, the email stated that it COULD cost $150, but nothing more than that. I have a clean record (no violations, DUI's etc... etc...), and so the total bill only came to $32.50. Im guessing that the more violations there are, the more it is going to cost/come closer to the quoted price per your emails. I hope this helps. Congrats on acceptances everyone.

its not a scam. my offer letter stated that I would be emailed with a background check. I have to complete my background check before my offer expires in January. So I did it already. It applies to a handful of schools and it has my top schools on it already, so I figured I would do it now anyway in case I either do or dont get into my other choices.

I just got it! I'm MAD about this cost. -_- this better come off of my tuition LBVS

I just did the background check and they sent me an email saying my payment of $32.50 has been received? Hmm, I guess I got a cyber Thursday discount

Lucky! The charged me nearly the full amount. I don't understand why, I've held high level military security clearances.

As stated here it is not a scam. Anyone accepted to school has to do it. I remember last year after I got my acceptance I also wondered why some were paying a lot more than others. I think mine was like $75 or so and the reason why is because as stated above depending on what state you live in and how much work it is to do certain searches in your state. I see some stated they spent 5k on applications this year. Just curious what ran it up to this? Applied to almost all schools, lots of interviews and travel? I didn't realize how expensive it could get wow. Thanks for the answer

$400 fee for DAT, $$$ for study material (complete destroyer package ~$300, Chad's $50, Bootcamp ~$100, Clif's). I also applied to 14 schools, so it was over $1400 for primary apps. Most of those schools wanted between $50-85 for the supplemental fee to process the app (I think only 2 of the schools said they would contact me for a supplemental fee and have yet to do so). Of those 14 schools, I received 3 interview invites - gas for the one I could drive to, airfare for the other 2; hotel for 2, stayed with my brother for 3rd; rented a car in Phoenix; gotta eat, too.

So all in all, yes this process has cost me around $5k, and that may be being conservative. Still need to drop another $1000 for my deposit at Pitt.

they took $148.25 from me.... I have 1 disorderly conduct on my records (which I wrote about in my application) and that's it! that's weird

I don't even have that. I literally have NOTHING in my background that could come up. They charged me the same. Oh well.

Can a school revoke an acceptance based on what they see in the background check?

As an immature child many moons ago, I had a friend that was charged with possession of a controlled substance and received a violation and a $100 fine. .
Also, more recently, she was charged with a DWI, but with God on her side, she was convicted of a moving violation (speeding ticket). Not a misdemeanor or felony, just a DMV violation. So technically I think the record is clear but u never know what they'll see.

Should my friend be worried about anything?

Interviewing at NYU, CASE, LECOM & UB

I also have a "friend" in the same situation. Anyone have any advice they can offer lol

The truth shall set you free!
If you get the chance to interview, and you've disclosed that you have made a mistake in the past, don't wait for your interviewer to bring it up. Man/woman up, and nip it in the bud before it becomes an issue.

i.e.- "Before we begin I'd like to let you know that as a young adult I made the stupid decision to drink and drive. It was the biggest mistake of my life, and it will absolutely never happen again"

^A close
friend of mine took this same approach, and it played out favorably for her.

If you lied to the ADCOM on your application, AND failed to bring it up during the interview, then may the gods have mercy on your soul.

Luckily the check came back absolutely clear even though there was charges in the past and no convictions. Luckily I didn't disclose anything cuz than I would have dug my own grave! Yay!! All clear to start in August!
I wish every1 else in the cycle the best of luck!

Yeah I spent a bunch last year to go to Chicago and got accepted at MWU-IL but the tuition was way too much for me. I also lost a deposit to them so there went another 1200-1500 not sure what it was. I only applied to my state school this year due to the high costs everywhere else. I was very fortunate that it is in the same city I live in and got accepted this year! I am truly blessed.
