Those who have a non-science related Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate degree, please state what your major was. And why you've switched to pharmacy.

Thanks in advance! 🙂

I have a B.A. in Music Education. Also am an EMT-B. Many reasons why I chose to go into pharmacy, too many to list but a couple:
my music program was cut 2nd year into teaching(this happened to about 75% of my graduating class); sick of my customer service dead end job; my wife is a pharmacist and she seems to enjoy her job; I love working in healthcare; would love to complete my pharmD and teach......

i started out as a psych major in college. I guess i played around the first couple years, and started to think about my future and my career. I took a bio class and found it interesting and started pursuing biology as a major. I started to explore career options and at the time, pharmacy was the next big thing after medicine, and started exploring it, and kept going with it.

hope this helps

I have a BA in psychology and a masters in social work. I have been working as an addictions counselor specializing in dual diagnosis clients for the last 7 years. I chose Pharmacy because it allows me to continue my work to help others and allows me the versatility to use my past experience.

My bachelor's is in ethnic studies and chemistry (weird, I know), and I have a master's in sociology.

I want to be a pharmacist (as the cliche goes) to help people and improve their health outcomes; but I've always found it amazing that people can take something if they're feeling sick, and get better.

Can you tell I'm preparing for my interviews? 🙂

I will graduate in May with a BA in Religious Studies: Theology and a minor in Chemistry. I was going to go full time into a pastoral position, but I felt led to use my love for the sciences as well, so I decided to pursue pharmacy. I want to work as a cardiovascular/critical care pharmacist and be an active role in patient's drug therapy.

AS in Computer Tech and a BS in Information Tech. Even though the degrees are of "Science", they are totally unrelated to pharmacy.

B.A. in Liberal Studies (Elementary Education)

I have a BA in Classics which is greek and latin. I was a Classics pre-med major in college. I am also a certified medical technologist, so pharmacy was not such a big leap. 🙂

I got my B.A. in Communication & Sociology back in 1994. Then I went into journalism, and decided to switch to pharmacy last year.

B.A. English 2005...

I've always liked studying English and Sciences...upon graduation and finding the lack of job opps and therefore financial gratification...going back to do Pharm. My husb. works at Walgreens and we go out with some of the Pharmacists from time to time...I'm hooked!

I have a BA in French/International Relations. I also speak French fluently. I was going to go into the foreign service then I started to think about law school. I even took the LSAT and then I took a year off to work before applying to law schools, during this time I realized that law was not for me. I was interested in healthcare law and realized that I could be more effective in the healthcare system with a degree in pharmacy as opposed to one in law. I also like hard sciences because it allows you to learn more about the concrete world. I got tired of learning about all the mistakes man has made throughout history (and continues to make).--->I studied a lot of history

I have a BA in Management. I just picked Business Management because I like being in leadership positions so I figured I would enjoy that. I have LOVED chemistry ever since I started to learn about it in 8th grade. I even told my dad I wanted to be a chemical engineer when I was like 14. But then my social life got too important to do something so hard so I took the easy road. Once I got into the corporate world I realized that I had no passion for regular business...I wanted to do something involving chemistry. So I looked into most of the health professions and once I landed on pharmacy I just knew it was where I am supposed to be.😍 And I LOVE my chemistry classes.

I have a BS in Mass Communications/Public Relations from 1999. I am looking into pre-Pharm because I have always been interested in healthcare and my father has been ill, so I want to learn more, be able to help people.

Yeah I'll be graduating in May with a degree in Supply Chain Management. From the beginning i knew I wanted to pursue a degree in pharmacy, but i chose business as well because i enjoy both. It was most definitely a worthwhile route.

My degree is in psychobiology - it's a B.A. not a B.S. I find psychology/psychobiology to be really interesting, but I don't want a career out of it. I like helping people, but I don't want to be a therapist - I think I would be overly involved and get too upset over it. It's a lot of responsibility. I like that in pharmacy there are definite right and wrong answers - this medication will interact with that, etc. It's more clear-cut and more my personality than psychology.

Not to mention that a degree in psych without a Master's or PhD is bleak, career opportunity wise. I went to an interview where they told me I'd be getting $10/hour, have to drive severely mentally ill people in my own car, and I *probably* won't get murdered. I decided for that money, I'd rather try to be a pharm tech and see what happens. It turns out I really like retail pharmacy so I took my prerequisites and applied to pharmacy school.
