Anyone have their MCAT regraded?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Forgive my ignorance, but why would anyone want their MCAT regraded? If it was only the writing section, that would make sense, as the grading is somewhat subjective. But the main 3 sections are scantron - how can one's score change with a regrade?

According to a staff member on the e-mcat site, a regrade of the multiple choice sections has *never* produced a different score. I suppose there is a first time for everything, though.

hahaha yeah, maybe they ran the scantron through backwards or something

I've posted why I am having it regraded before and don't feel like explaining it again.

That's fine; I wasnt looking for a personal reason, but rather a general answer. If you're truly concerned, I suggest calling the AAMC and getting an official answer, instead of posting on a forum where the answer will likely be at least partially incorrect. It's not too difficult to pick up the phone.

My sister-in-law lost track of time and it ended before she could bubble in all her answers on physical science. Luckily she had put a dot on each bubble she was going to fill in. She got a good score so I guess it graded it fine. I also would doubt a regrade will change anything.

i doubt a regrade will change my score but its worth a chance. My problem was that I put some marks next to numbers to signify that I needed to double check my answer. I ran out of time though and didnt have a chance to completely erase them. I wonder if this might have thrown the scantron off (like it might have read it as having two answers). Probably no change though.

Maybe you didn't punch the ballot all the way through and Ralph Nader wound up getting your score. The return of the dreaded MCAT chad.

Sorry for the jaded answer, but I'm suffering from Perpetual Waitlist Stress Disorder (PWSD) and am losing my mind.

That's actually a good reason.

Good Luck

What if they regrade and your score goes DOWN 😱 ?

I guess there is always a gamble.

You got 29 on the MCAT if I remember correctly, a pretty decent score. Why would you wanted regraded, it just slows things down. I highly doubt that you missed some q because you had a pencil mark beside the q, b/c on my tests at school I often did that and it was never misgraded. Say even if by some oddity they did grade it wrong, there is no chance in hell they will change it. After all it was your mistake for not erasing the marks not theirs. Don't waste your money and ride out with your 29. You have a chance at a lot of schools with that score. But if you were thinking of going to Harvard, then just retake the MCAT. Best of luck champ.

MCAT STaff over at e-mcat.com answered a question about this. someone asked if they could put marks next to the numbers on the scantron and she said it would be fine and the machine is sophisticated enough to disregard the marks.

like I said, I don't expect a change.

if you dont expect a change, why are you getting it regraded? thats the whole fundamental concept behind getting a regrade buddy...

well, i'm obviously hoping for a change! I just wouldnt bet money that my grade goes up.

Cerb, I really think you are right getting your test rescored. I see this almost every semester. I score about 200 scantrons (times 4 exams) every semester and do find that sometimes stray marks gets the right answer scored wrong. I do a quick visual check of all the wrong answers after I score them on the machine and sometimes do find some discrepencies and have to add on points. This is before even I hand them out to the students.

If nothing at all... atleast the regrading will get you some peace of mind. Otherwise, you will always wonder. Always believe in yourself and know that you don't have to explain any of your actions as long as you are secure in them. If you really feel that your exam should be rescored regardless of any change in numbers... so be it. Good luck.
