Hi

All the classes I'd like to take coming fall is ALL CLOSED.
Bio100, Chem 102, Math 150 ...

Anybody has or had diffculty registering pre-req courses
at the Hunter? If you had, how were you able to register?
Did you go the first day of class to sign up waiting list?
But I heard there is no waiting list for science classes..

Any sugguestions?

Don't wait for the first day of classes. Make an effort to figure out everything on Thursday 8/19 since that is when finals are and I am unsure if staff/faculty will be around on friday.

I have no clue about the other departments but the chemistry department has a waiting list that starts on Mon 8/23/04 at 8AM at Hunter North 1414. This is BEFORE the Fall semester starts. I was told that a line starts forming by 730am or earlier. This is for all of the lab sections.

I tried to register for classes as a non-matriculated student for Fall 2003 since i missed their application deadline and everything was closed. So I am now a transfer student and registered for my Fall 2004 classes in early July. All the Ochem labs were filled but there were a number of Bio 100 sections open.

I would go directly to the Bio department IN PERSON and look to see if they have a waiting list as well and then ask the secretary.
Biology Dept - 927 N

What is your student status?

I really do not know the procedure, BUT if I were in your situation, I would, at least, go to the first class in Bio 100 and talk to Dr Alaie. She is a high energy individual who really works to get people into the class.
The limiting factor is lab spots. But again I do not know the situations, but in the past she allowed people to "stand" in on the first lab. As people dropped she actively worked the e-mail to offer these seats to "standees". She's good at it, and almost always makes it work.
Good Luck

since tuition is due tomorrow (friday), a lot of people will be automatically dropped from their classes for not paying on time. start trying to register online this weekend, and don't stop until you get in. bio should be no problem, and chem lectures are usually easy enough to get into. the biggest problem might be chem lab. . . get in line early to put your name on the wait list.

Hi All, thank youf for your replies.

My status is Non degree student.

Noted lastday to pay tuition will be tomorrow but, registration is closed from 8/19 until 8/27 (for all non degree students) which is first day of the class.

Does anybody know if I can still register during this weekend?

I was able to register for the Chem103 (Gen chem1 lab) only today.
But not for chem 102 and bio 100.
I went to chem department but no waiting list for the Chem102 Lecture.
But since I was able to register chem 103, I will just keep try adding
chem 102 from 8/27.

For the Bio100, I talked professor Sam, and there is no waiting list of any kind. So, I just have to try from 8/27...

But do you guys think people will actually drop by 8/27?
and also during first week of classes??

I am still worried that I might not able to register these classes...

Any suggestions?

thank you

Nondegree students get last picks. you should matriculate to Hunter ASAP so that you will have higher priority to register in the future.

Did you talk to the secretary in the chem dept? I think her name is Martha. Getting into a lab is the hardest part of getting your chem class so talk to the Summer Student Advisor (Prof Sweeney?)in the chem dept to see if you can get the lec/rec added before classes start. They can put a hold for a seat in the lecture for you so that when registration opens you will be able to register for the class via esims even it shows Zero seats available.

Don't give up like i did last year. keep talking to staff/faculty which i did not do. I just stayed at home and kept checking esims to get into Bio 100 for a week and nothing became available during late registration. if you don't get your classes for fall you may have to wait one year if they are not offered it in the spring

if you're already in a chem lab, it should be easy enough to get into a chem lecture class. go talk to the chem department secretary.

for bio 100, keep trying to register during the first week of classes! that course has somewhere around 500 people in it, so there's bound to be some movement. . .

good luck!

I already talked to Chem dept but, there is no waiting list or any kind
for the Chem Lec.... Since deman is so high, they can not take
anyone and put on the lists... so, I just have to keep trying by esims.

Thank you for all your help.

I just got Bio 100 class, thank you so much for everything.

I have another questiong to you guys...

I am planning to take as below classes this fall at the Hunter, anyone took classes as below?
How hard will it be to get A from all below classes
at the Hunter, Do you think these will be doable?

I took Calculus and Gen Chem about 8 years ago at the State school but did not do well B-..that's why retaking these.
Also, I am not planning to work at all.
Please advise..

Chem 102 with lab
Phy 110 with lab
Bio 100
Precal 125 or Calculus 150
total 17.5 credits

aren't you restricted to only 6 credits/semester?

Hi Stoleyerscrubz,

I can register as many credits as regular degree students.
Were you only able to register 6 credits per semester?

A B- is not a great grade but it is not a bad grade. I would move on to Gen Chem II and Calc II and when Bio I and II and Organic I and II are completed I would consider retaking classes.

Perhaps if you really feel the need to retake them then do them in the summer.

As a nondegree unmatriculated student I was restricted to 6 credits in the summer until I was accepted for the Fall 2004 semester. Congrats on getting that class. I did not think you would get it so soon.

Because you need to take Gen Chem II, Organic Chem I and II and they all must be done in sequence you have a minimum of 3 semesters of college if you are just doing post-bacc and much more if you are degree seeking

Semester I(Fall)
Bio I
Chem II
Math

Semester II(Spring)
OChem I
Bio II
Physics I

Semester III(Fall)
Ochem II
physics II
Math

Semester IV(Spring)
retake classes
take MCAT
apply to med school

summer school can be used to retake classes between your 2nd and 3rd semester

Puff that sounds like a pretty challenging schedule. But I guess no harder than you can expect down the road to med school. Good luck.
A word about Bio 100. It is taught by Dr. Adrienne Alaie; a wonderful teacher. However, people seem to underestimate the difficulty of the course. Perhaps this is because bio is less intimidating than the physical sciences. Also I think because Dr. Alaie is young, personable, enthusiastic, and OK good looking, people might underestimate her seriousness. Be warned her tests require knowledge and true understanding of the copious course materials.

Hi all

thank you for your advises
Only 4 more days before 1st day of class.

I am also trying to apply as degree students soon so that
from Spring semester, I can register on time.

I'm trying to register for Fall 2005 and I was able to get the chem and bio lectures, but for the labs it tells me the sections are only open to new freshman; there is space in the ones I'm trying to register for. What's that about? Has anyone had this problem before and if so, what do I do about it?

I'm matriculating as a 2nd degree student.

Thanks.

I think some classes are reserved just for freshman because there are A LOT of post-bacc students and also transfer and upper classmen taking lower division classes.

Tell me exactly which classes you are talking about.
