What the heck?

The latest: http://chicagoent.com/about.htm

they have audiologists that are referred to as 'doctors'.

I know that pharmacists and physical therapists are nurses are using this title too?

Ridiculous. A 'doctorate' should not be equivalent to advanced training in whatever field. That's false advertising! It misleads patients.

Interesting.

I just took my son to see the Craniofacial team at the local Children's hospital and his first appointment was with "Dr. Somebodyorother." According to the plaque on the wall, he is an AudD or something like that.

I had the same reaction as you.

This is why, when asked what I do, I say "I am a physician".

A bunch of medical people, and many others, call themselves "doctor", i.e., chiropractors, etc.
