I was just wondering. Some ppl say that if you get an interview with Nova, that you're pretty much in, and it's just a formality, in order for the school to get to know you. Other ppl say it's just another interview and that it is 1/3 of your application. What do you guys think based on your own experience? Anyone interviewed there and got rejected? Thanks! 🙂

I really hope that is the case as I interview at Nova this month!

Anyway, being selected for an interview is proof that you are statistically what the university wants. Your grades, PCAT score, LORs, personal essays, and extras are ideal in the mind of the ad com. The interview is for the ad com to see if you possess the ability to transform the person you are on paper into the person you are in reality. Also, you need to show them that you really want to study pharmacy, want to attend the school, and want to succeed in the classroom and in your career.

FYI, the acceptance rate of people selected for an interview at Nova is around 78%... by no means a guarantee but a reason to be optimistic! 👍

I interviewed and was selected as an alternate (interviewed in Oct.). I was accepted to Mercer the day b4 my NOVA interview!

I guess an alternate is the same as being on the wait list (or maybe higher than the waitlist to make me feel better).

What is an alternate?😕

They add you to a list of alternates. The school knows how many spots that they need to fill when all the accepted people make a decision to attend or not to attend. If there are 10 spots, they pick 10 people off the alternate list to fill the openings. They will pick the 10 "best" candidates. It will vary year to year on how many spots are open.

I see, interesting. Thanks!🙂

I was just interviewed at Nova's West Palm location on Wednesday (1/09/08). If you do get an interview, pray its not at that location. The interview was brutal. I went into it really confident, and went out with my tail between my legs. They're really good with intimidation there.

There was a tour of the facilities, about an hour, tour guides were very nice. The interview was upwards of 45 minutes. Overall I was at the campus around 4 hours, because two other candidates were interviewed before me. Each had around 45 min to an hour of interview time.

Good luck to everyone.

Why brutal? Could you give us details? If you don't wanna say it publicly, could you please send me a PM ? I'd really appreciate it! Thank you!🙂

When were you told the campus you were selected to interview? I received an email concerning an interview and called a woman in admissions and neither the email or woman told me the campus. I guess it will state in the letter that I receive in the coming days. When were you informed?

I am also having my intervie this coming week, any advice?

Does anyone know if you have to complete all the required coursework before you apply or can you complete it in Spring 08?

yes, you must have organic chem 1 completed by December. so if you're applying for 08 and you dont have an orgo 1 grade by December, just reapply next year. That's straight from Tracy Templin's mouth. The rest of the courses dont have any required due date times. Nova never used to go by this orgo 1 grade thing until Dean Malave put this into effect during the middle of this year's application process. According to recent graduates (student government members) and current students, I haven't heard anything good about this guy and they're "happy his term is almost over." I heard he's an absolute nightmare.

Hope this helps.

Sullina, thanks for your input. I'm also applying to Nova so we'll see how it goes. But do you know if interviews are with Dean Malave? And could you elaborate on why he's a nightmare if you know. Thank you! 🙂

No, interviews are not conducted by Malave but he does have final say before one is admitted (go figure?). Anyway, I rather not share the personal accounts that I've heard any further as far as Malave goes, as I know adcoms do peruse this board. I'm just going to go ahead and restate that an SGA member and graduates (class of 07) told me personally that they're very happy his term is almost over. When that is, I'm not sure, but if anyone could shed any light, that would be cool. If not, I'm pretty sure it's 4 years and I believe this or next year will make it the 4th.

I received a letter saying I was missing some classes (when in actuality the transcripts just hadn't gotten to NOVA yet). Two days later I got a call from a woman at the West Palm office saying they'd like to interview me for the West Palm location. They were specific about the location. I accepted the date and time, then the next day I received a formal letter telling me directions, date and time of the interview, and their dress and attendance code. There was also a paper I had to sign and return to West Palm saying I agreed to their code.
If you have gotten a call and an email, and it didn't specify a location, most likely it is their main location in Davie.

From what I've heard, my interview was pretty unique for NOVA. They usually stick to the general questions (why pharmacy, why are you a good candidate, what are you best/worst qualities, etch). For some reason the scope of the questions in my interview were much broader (name some changes you would make to a branch of pharmacy that would make it better for your patients). I think they were trying to see if I could think on my feet. They threw a lot of questions my way I hadn't anticipated. Also, if you're expecting an interview thats 15 to 20 minutes long, and in actuality they keep you in the boardroom for more than 45, its quite an unpleasant surprise.

If you're quick on your feet then it shouldn't be a problem. From what I've read of your comments you're interviewing at Davie, so you shouldn't have a hard time. I've had friends that interviewed there this year and the interviewers are supposed to be very nice.

Thank you for letting us know Slowgoodbye. I'm interviewing at Davie so we'll see how it goes. But I think that if they asked all those weird questions you say, they know they're asking tougher questions and hopefully your evaluation was better because you were able to answer them. We'll see how it goes ... also, is there any reason why they interview at both places instead of just Davie and then if you get accepted send you to WPB if Davie is full or something like that. I'm just wondering if it means anything to get an interview in one place or the other.

I'm not sure why they picked me for west palm instead of davie, except that I live a little closer. I can't see their decision being based on convenience for me, so I have no idea. The west palm commitee said that they make notes based on what they think, then they send my stats and application to davie for the final decision. I think if you interview at davie you skip this step. I wanted to ask about if I don't get in to WPB if I'd still be considered for Davie, but I didn't know if the question would come off as desperate or not. I think they interview for the location that has seats available and just consider you for that location.... which sucks for me because WPB only accepts around 50 people a year. We shall see. Good luck on your interview.
