Here's my situation. I have a 2.8 cumulative GPA and 3.0 science GPA. I started off really bad my first couple of years of college (1.47 GPA). I partied way too much. Then when I got my head on straight, I have been having 4.0 semesters. I have A's in all my 300 and 400 level science classes. I took my DATs this month and scored the following: PAT:22, ORG:28, BIO:23, GCHEM:23, TS:24, RC:22, MATH:18 🙁 , AA:23. Praise God. I applied to U of I in chicago, Southern Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan. My #1 choice is U of I in chicago because I'm from chicago. Anyone know what my chances are to any of these schools ? Also, I've always wanted to attend UPenn, but I didn't apply because of my GPA. Does anyone think I should give it a try? or is it just a waste of money? I really need an honest opinion. Thanks.

Good job on the DAT! 👍
I don't know how much this applies to dental schools but adcoms like to see an upward trend in grades. I heard that exams like the DAT demonstrate you capacity to do well but your GPA demonstrates how hard you are willing to work for it. You started off not so well but then you worked at it and showed everyone that you clearly have it in you to do well.
Maybe you can write something about your first couple of years in your personal essay and mention what made you get back on track.
If you are not low on cash you might as well apply to UPenn so that you won't regret it later.

I agree with previous responder.... Dental school strongly looks at upward trend if your GPA is low. Great job on DAT 👍 . I don't know much of the schools that you've mentioned above. However, if I were in your spot, I'd also apply to a few other private schools like NYU, BU, Tufts and Nova.
Spending a little more money would be a safe thing to do and apply to a few more places.
Good Luck

you did a wonderful on your DATs and hopefully that will help you. but just to warn you, many schools filter out students based on GPA (ie. anything below a 3). apply early and maybe your sub-3 gpa will be overlooked. best of luck!

and stop making the decision for the committee-- leave it to them!! 😡

Hey, only God, and the ADCOMS know what your chances are. All I can say is, if you have the money, go ahead and apply to Penn. You never know and you don't want to spend the rest of your life wondering what would have happened if you had applied. Good luck.
