Anyone know who UMASS memorial is selling out to?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I thought everything was going great in Mass based on what BU Pathology said. Maybe that health care reform up there isnt working out so great. I thought only 2 percent of the population up there didnt have insurance.

One thing is for sure, the health care bubble is bursting in this country. I knew the growth was a joke and most of it waste. Looks like the housing and dot.com bubbles more and more each day.

Not to knock UMass, but it is amazing that the medical school there continues to get relatively high marks from US News and others despite the fact that its main hospital has had major longstanding problems. I guess the conclusion is to take all those rankings with a huge grain of salt.

Being right in the middle of the state might seem like a good spot, but it actually puts UMASS at a disadvantage -- nobody to the east is going to go to UMASS when they can go to MGH, Brigham, Tufts or Leahy. And nobody to the west is going to go to Worcester because it's too far for routine stuff and they can get to Baystate in Springfield more easily. Thus, UMASS is left with a fairly small geographic area and population size to cover -- a big academic medical center in an area that really just needs a medium sized community hospital . . .

With all those layoffs, the CEO better not be getting a bonus.

What will happen to its fellowship and residency programs?

Seems to me like it won't have much impact since it's "clinical outreach" which is mostly FP and IM offices, I would suspect. Most AP stuff at university programs comes right from the hospital or its clinics anyway.
