Anyone lining up for Black Friday?

I did not get the $181k condo that I offered cash for $192.5k, they had 34 cash offers. Housing inventory is so terrible in CA now. I guess there is no point trying to get a cheap condo when I have to face tons of investors who have a boat load of more money to turn it into rental. I am broaden my search up to $600k house (working on pre-approval now). To complement the house, I am thinking of buying a TV for the first time in 10 years.

There is a deal in Walmart for a 60 inch LED Vizio $688 (Market value $999). If I don't get any call to work, I'd probably line up and try to save $300. $300 is about 8 hours worth of work after tax in CA. So, it's probably worth it for me >_>;

Anyone else planning to stand in line?

I do every year. When I was preggo with my number two...I fought a chick in line for a free Spider-Man DVD. Bitch learned not to mess with red heads.

I never stand in those lines. Standing in line FOREVER to save a few bucks isn't worth it IMO.
 
I don't believe in lining up to shop. I'll show up at 1 minute prior to opening, no earlier. If the store does that bull**** giving out vouchers to those on line, then I won't even go to that store.

Whatever happened to the days when you fight and trample over people to get the item.

Hell, even in the recent gas crisis here in NY, I never waited on lines for gas. Either I flashed my hospital ID badge to cut the line (regardless of whether I was headed to work or not) or I just drove 30 miles to Connecticut where there are no lines.

I also thought about shots...My mom and I always shop, but we don't usually wait in line. For example if Target opens at 9pm, we show up at 9:30. We usually still get what we wanted.
 
Only line I'm going to stay in is the line to get a christmas tree permit so I can go and cut a 15ft tree from a national forest. That's what everyone should be doing the day after T-giving.

Plastic Christmas tree is un-American.

I *think* I'm working t-day, friday, and saturday. I told work I was unavailable until after my out of town rotation and midyear but somehow they figured out when I was coming home between the two. Bastards :laugh:

Yep. We're due for a hard freeze tonight. I have to wrap my pipes just in case. First year I was in Tucson, it was 15-18 degrees at 7am for 3 days in a row. A bunch of peoples pipes burst. It was ridonk.

Last year, we had a few weeks of hard freezes overnight. The desert gets really cold at night in winter....no buildings to retain heat just outside the metro area. I know people think we just have a bunch of dirt and it's hot all the time but it's not true. High today is 55.

We'll be back into the 70s at the end of the week but that will be the last hurrah. Then it gets cold. And I love it! Hot cocoa, my snuggie, the fire, sweaters..BEST time of year. When it snows on the mountain, I'll probably head up there to a cabin. If I get extra time, I'll drive all the way to Flagstaff to stay in a cabin provided there is a low chance of getting snowed in.
 
I don't wait in any line that has more than five people, ever. On Black Friday, I sleep in and head over to see what's for sale around noon-ish. This year I work Thanksgiving at a pharmacy near one of the biggest malls in New Jersey, so I got a room at a nearby hotel. Once I get up, I will visit that mall before driving all the way back home.

I hate online shopping, so I do go to the brick-and-mortar stores. First, it's harder (often impossible) to discern quality flaws online. Second, photos can flatter the item for sale too much. Third, if it is something wearable, no way am I buying it without trying it on first. I only buy books and DVDs online as well as things I have already seen/felt/tried in real life.
 
I was debating getting either a Galaxy 7 or Kindle Fire HD, either online or in store. I have done the 4am waiting in line thing and I cannot say I must do it again if I can get a similiar deal online. :laugh:

So far it seems like Best Buy has the best deal, but there is still time for others to pull ahead.

If you're wanting a 7 inch tab, I'm not sure you can get a better tab than Nexus 7.

They're suppose to release 32GB Nexus 7 for $249.... I guess they'll drop the 16GB to $199?

I bought an 8GB for $199 for my daughter. It's pretty sweet.

The Talmund "Let every man divide his money into three parts, and invest in a third in land, a third in business, and a third in reserve" circa 1200 BC-500 AD. I need asset diversification. Right now, pretty much all my money is in business (90% stocks), little in reserve (10% bonds), and almost 0 in land. I need a place to live, a place I can call it my own, it makes no sense to keep helping other people paying their mortgage. If I get a 3-4 bedroom house, I could just rent 3 rooms out, and they will be paying my mortgage. :meanie:

$300 is not just a few bucks. If I have to stand in line for 2 hours to save $300, I'd do it. I don't get paid $150/hour after tax. I tried looking for a flash deal/online deal for this 60 inch Smart TV LED Vizio, but nothing comes close to it. Now, the problem is I probably will not get to stand in line for this; someone just asked me to work on Black Friday 0_0;

I am looking at Best Buy add scans. The only deal I could use is $99 3 TB hard drive for my rapidly expanding TV series and movies, I used up 3 TB hard drive already -.-; They have the same deal at Costco but I have no membership. The rest of the deal at Best Buy is meh... Seems like I just have to make 1 or 2 stops this year.

There is also a deal for 32 inch TV at Kmart for $97, good enough for a guest room. I bet I'd have to knock someone's teeth out for this one tho.

Are you okay with having roommates? If I had a house (unless I am struggling with NO choice) I don't think I would want to rent it out and deal with roommates. They can be a pain.

I see what you are saying....I would stand in line if I was GUARANTEE 100% without a doubt to get the item I want/the savings I want.

What if you stand in line for HOURS and then when it's your turn they said "Sorry dude we sold OUT!" That would suck......I would stand in line only if I was guarantee to get the item I want at the price I want it at. LOL
 
i never wait on line, what a waste. can work and get paid for the day, why not? spending hours in line during the time you would normally be sleeping is a waste of time and money in my opinion.

Just got the 32gb at staples last thursday. Thing is top notch. Apparently they're coming out with a 3G version too, if you don't already have a smartphone. Wifi suits me just fine, since I'm using it for rotations and around the house. You can also cache maps so you can use it for driving directions.

I have heard of people that literally make their living off of black friday and similar sales. They go to the store, buy up all these crazy deals, and resell stuff online for regular prices.

Problem to hit this many stores is if you plan to arrive at 8pm at Wally, you are going to be in the 350th in line. And you won't get the item you want and won't get to the check out counter until 11 pm.

The item I want isn't in high demand....and I won't have trouble getting it. But it is greatly reduced off of regular prices. The WM's around here usually aren't that crazy.
 
Hmmm, spend thanks giving with family or camping for the 60 in Vizio. Back in school and unmarried, camping was kinda fun, chatting up people who are also freezing their butts off with you, even do some gaming. But now kinda feels bad for leaving wifie and baby at home on thanksgiving.... Oh the married life. Damn you, why such a good price!

41.5 hrs of overtime this paycheck so I'm cashed up but have no time to get to the stores. Online shopping only for me.
 
How early do you have to camp out Walmart, do they hand out numbers to people in line? Hope its not any worse than camping out at bestbuy.

Best buy is worse. I've seen 2 tents 2 days ago here next to the entrance... Walmart here is not that bad. I haven't seen anyone today.

If its anything like last year at Walmart, they had us stand in specific lines for the special items we wanted and gave us coupons for that item (limit 1 per person on high priced item). You were not allowed to leave the line (except to visit the bathroom in limited time, if you leave your spot too long, they won't let you back in). Big ticket door buster items are limited to 15-100/store depending how busy that store is.

Yeah, I used to get to bestbuy like at midnight and the line would already be around the building. At least at Walmart it'll will be over before the night is over. Well, I will probably swing by in the afternoon to see if the line looks hopeful.
 
Just snagged a Toshiba LED 50 inch for $499 at Tigerdirect.com using a discover card.

Discover will price match Sears Black Friday TV at $299. Will get a $200 refund from discover. Got a nice Toshiba 50 inch LED for $299 without waiting in line at Sears tomorrow :-D I will probably try to resell this at craigslist/ebay to recoup the price of Vizio tho...

Even my husband didnt know about 3 TB and we are in our 30s
 
1st here lol. Trying to get another 50'' on amazon and 60'' as well -.- my 3g phone prolly has no hope lol

Meh, I don't think so. Keep in mind that 5' is the diagonal size. The 47" we had was great for a good sized apartment, but felt small in a house. Besides, $740 including tax for a highly rated 60 incher? In another 2-3 years, there will probably be 70-80" ones with some new tricks for $1K or less.

I thought you were going for the TV instead of the PS3. 😕 People on slickdeals were complaining that the 60" on amazon sold out in less than a second. LOL. Probably a bunch of geeks wrote scripts just for that one.

In hind sight, could have waltzed in walmart at 7:30 and still gotten the last 60", because most were going for the cheaper/lower performance TVs.

It did. 🙁 didn't click fast enough. And I didn't want the crappy one. It's ok though. I got some other awesome stuff 😀 😀

The PS3 came as a package deal with games and stuff. We're gonna sell our PS2 for cheap before Christmas and make some kids happy.
