Anyone take Latin?

in your undergrad? Did you find that learning Latin has helped you in dentistry?


any info is appreciated.

It's not law school. The only class I imagine it could help at all is in microbiology, and not much even at that. It would be better to just take a micro class instead of Latin to prepare.

I took a year of Latin, and it hasn't helped me in dental school a bit.

i took Latin in high school and it is probably the most pointless class ever. you don't need to learn an entire language to figure out what alot of prefixes and suffixes mean. I did like the fact that we learned not just the language, but the Roman mythology, history and culture, which was quite interesting. The weird grammar rules and sentence structures really drove me nuts when I took the class (although the class itself was easy, it was annoying).

I took bioscientific terminology in undergrad, which focused on Latin and Greek roots. It was fun and easy, but only mildly helpful. Actually, it's mostly good for annoying my classmates. Ala of the nose... "ooh hey that means wing!" Lame.

I speak Italian, which is reasonably close to Latin, and it's helped a little bit with anatomy (ala means "wing"!). I agree with Diagnodent though - Spanish would be much better. Its roots are Latin-based, and you might actually see some use from it in the future.

bummer. I took 4 years of spanish in highschool and hated it. I can communicate to a latino if needed. I was just hoping that latin might help and since i've already signed up for it, now all the spanish classes are full. 🙁

Took 9 credits of latin in undergrad and I wish those had been Spanish. et tu?

I took 3 years of latin in high school and 2 years in college. It helps a little but spanish would be a better choice.
