I'm hearing that some people bring a portfolio to their interviews with a copy of their resume/research/transcripts/etc. in case they are asked about them.

Does anyone actually furnish papers during an interview?

Shouldn't the interviewers already have all this information? Although I have yet to interview, I think it would be better to refamiliarize yourself with your application before you go to the interview, so you aren't shuffling through papers. Anybody else?

i only would take papers with me if i feel that they might be brought up in the interview. for example, a copy of a publication. Or for me, i wrote about spoken word in my personal statement, so to my credit, I would bring along a piece or two I have written (since i dont really memorize them anymore) just in case I get the crazy interviewer who asks me to perform for them like a dancing monkey.

Only time I would bring a piece of paper would be to write something down when I ask them questions. They should already have everything else.

i wasn't planning on bringing anything to the interview. Is it normal to bring paper/portfolios to the actual interview?

I was under the impression that interviews are no longer than an hour and most of the information that you need to write down or take notes about will be covered in the open house or whatever it is. I also wasn't planning on asking questions that were so numerous and/or in detail that I couldn't just remember them 😕

Aw nuts, now I'm making everyone paranoid. I don't think I'll bring papers myself (mostly because I am a *huge* klutz and would probably either drop them or spend 2 minutes trying to find the one I wanted). I'm wondering mostly if anyone's actually done it and how it went. Or if anyone didn't bring papers and felt dumb because they didn't.

Oh, resumes, and what not. When you asked if anyone "whipped out papers" during the interview, I took it to mean something else. Makes more sense now...

For the love of God, do not do this.

We had an applicant show up with a binder full of "Personal Profiles" of herself - glossy one page combination resume/Yahoo personals ad. If she was looking for anyone to be impressed, well, let's just say it didn't have quite the desired effect.

Just show up looking sharp and try to have a normal conversation.

I will probably bring re-prints of my publications, but will only give them out if the interviewer asks for them. Other than that, just bringing a nice leather-bound pad for taking notes.

This is probably what I will do as well. Especially since there's a good chance I will have 1-2 papers that were not published at the time I submitted AMCAS, so not included yet...
