After applying to 30+ schools, I don't understand why I haven't gotten any invites yet! It's not like I applied to any schools out of my reach...this is driving me nuts!!

if you want useful feedback you should prob post your stats and the range of schools your applying to

I'm a CA/3.8/32 with the usual volunteering, leadership, etc...light on research with only one semester of basic research and about a year as data manger for a clinical study. I applied to these schools and have been complete at most by mid-August.

IMO:
you should get interviews from most non-big name, non-cali schools
Your stats are competitive, but not stellar, so I wouldn't bank on any Cali schools or big names, as all of which are insanely competitive and even if one had 4.0/40 mcat there is still no guarentee.

not saying you don't have a good shot at cali schools, but just don't be surprised or discouraged if you don't get interviews from those.

on 2nd thought, have you gotten 2ndaries from all of your schools?

i had the same LizzyM score, applied to a similar list of schools, was complete about two weeks after you were and waited six weeks for my first invites.

i know it's hard not to check email 5 times a day after you get complete emails, but hang in there. patience is key.

sux about the CA thing though, good luck with that. Here CA people are the best represented group after the in-state folks, so a lot of you are getting pushed far afield....

The schools on that list are all of the schools which I have completed a secondary. I also applied to UCSF but haven't gotten a secondary and a few others that I chose not to complete.

Yeah it blows applying to med school as a CA resident. I'm at least hoping for an interview at Irvine or Davis or SC. The one thing that will keep me distracted from all of this is football season. Thank god for fantasy football!

ah, well as another poster said, its still fairly early.

I'm sure you'll get into at least A school.
As far as Cali, I wouldn't be surprised if you got in, i would also not be surprised if you didn't.

on 3rd thought, where is your ugrad/major?
(i think being an undergrad at the UC that your applying to helps)

about the CA thing, i was in a similar situation 🙁
now im paying 60k+/ yr tuition at UIC as out of state
better luck to you sir, maybe you won't need it, your stats are better rounded👍

You'll be fine. Just have some patience

This is without a doubt the most random process I've ever seen. Sometimes I wonder if pulling names out of a hat would yield the same results.

While my MCAT isn't as good, I have similar stats as yours- applied to 22 schools, cGPA 3.88/sGPA3.90/28R (yep, the MCAT wasn't awesome for me).
But loads of research experience, ECs, etc. I know people who had lousy grades, no research, sparse ECs, but got 2+ interviews because they had MCAT scores in the mid-30s, CA residents, so it baffles me why you don't have an interview. Granted, their interviews were out of state, but nonetheless...

So who knows? You may get whacked with 5 interviews in two weeks. Here's to hoping for the best...(at least that's what I'm trying to do. Not succeeding at it but still trying).

Fine.
Here's how to tell if and where you'll get into med school:

1) List the schools you've applied to
2) If you can spell out your class, you'll be accepted to one of the schools used
3) Don't bother to even fill out secondaries to the schools not including the letters of your class

Some people end up reapplying a few times until they figure this system out, all the while needlessly refining their application and retaking the MCAT.

Good news for you, you are going to get into one of the following:

UCLA David Geffen
UCSD
Mount Sinai
Emory University
New York University
University OF Iowa Carver
University of Rochester
USC Keck
Albert Einstein
University of Maryland
University of Cincinnati
GeorgeToWn UnivErsity
Tufts UNiversiTY

Saint Louis University
Virginia Commonwealth University
Wayne State University
Creighton University
New York Medical College
Drexel University
SUNY Downstate
Pennsylvania State University
University of Illinois
Rosalind Franklin
TulanE UnivErsity
AlbaNy Medical College

This is the main reason it is recommended that you apply broadly and to a good number of schools - better chance to spell out your class.

This post is so full of win!

It speaks the truth though.

Brilliant. I may switch to this system to help predict interviews!

Hey Carbon, have you gotten any interviews yet? I got a 25 on the MCAT and already got an interview. Your mix of schools is pretty good though so don't give up yet.

No offense, quick question about where you got an interview with a 25? Did you have other stuff that made up for it?

It's going to suck next year with 'sixteen', e.g, an 'X' in the title.

Everyone to apply to Texas schools 😛.

Hmmm.....I have a 3.6 overall (and an even lower BCPM) and a 33MCAT. From your list I interviewed at Emory, USC, Tufts and UC Davis. Accepted to USC so far. I am also a california resident. Our ECs seem pretty similar. I have no basic research but 2 years in clinical research. I do have volunteering and leadership. The only thing I can think of it that I also have teaching experience and experience abroad. Otherwise I would think you should get some school love, even in california. Best of luck to you!

I'm feeling the stress as well, although I have received ONE invite, at a top ranked school, which I took to be a good sign.

But I haven't received any others since that invite in mid Oct.

I am a graduate student in public health. Undergrad GPA 3.65, grad GPA 3.7, 33Q. Basic sciences, public health, and social sciences research. Lots of leadership and volunteering in health-related and environmental service orgs, clinical volunteering, unique undergrad major, and expressed interest in working in a rural/underserved community in most of my 2ndaries. One major weakness: science GPA is a 3.35.

I was a little bit late with some 2ndaries - 6 went out in August, 6 went out in Sept, 4 went out in Oct. Could that be why? Is it my stats?

Is it to the point now where it's pretty clear I'm nobody's top choice? Should I be following up? I got the "app complete" email from everywhere I applied. Sorry. So many Qs. Panic setting in.

Though I am not a subscriber to "the process is so random" school of thought, it is definitely mysterious.

I got an interview from Yale, but not Drexel, Jefferson, NYU, Einstein, Wake Forest, and several more.

Some would say I was "Tufted" at some of those schools, but I don't buy that either.

The best bet is to target your apps to the strength of your record: not too high, not too low.

Did you do that?

yeah, I mean I tried to. I'm interested in becoming a PCP so I tried to reflect that as best I could in my selection of schools:

Brown
U Vermont
Dartmouth
Tufts
Boston U
NYU
GWU
Jefferson
Tulane
Mt. Sinai
Albert Einstein
Univ. of Washington
UMich
Mayo (interview)
UCLA
USC

What's getting "Tufted"? Is that not getting rejected, but not getting any interviews either? That's what's happening with me.

I know these forums are not the best for confidence anyway, but they are really making me feel like time is running out.

"Tufted" is being passed over for having stats that are much higher than the normal matriculant at that school.
