Its hard to get into medical school, but they will let any clown into dental school. All dental school students are kids who couldn't get into medicine anyways. Everyone knows that.

As for the same class thing. Yes dental students take some same classes as MD's, but they have a different grading scale. Something like an MD "C" is equivalent to a DDS "A".

The dental school subset is less intelligent than the MD school group. MD/DO rejects = DDS students. Most dentists are bitter that they did not get into medical school, so they feel that they have to badmouth or downplay MD's.

Maybe dental school is harder for dental students (read: less intelligent) than MD school is for med students. But dental school would be cake for any med student, however a dental student would sh1t himself in an MD program.

OK, time to end this garbage. With any luck, a moderator will shut this thread down; it's managed to completely disinfect itself of any intellectual value.

(and yes, I'm very deliberately refusing to respond to the immediately previous post)

I have a couple votes for closing this thing. I've been wanting to close it for weeks, due to the bickering that doesn't belong in lovely, friendly ALLo. All in favor say "aye".

KyGrlDr2B, as the OP I agree with closing it, this has gotten way out of hand and become unproductive/uninformative...

I dont really agree with any of this. This is stereotypical. What I posted was from experience, and those werent stereotypes (taken from a sample n > 30).

I respect the dental profession greatly. My significant other is currently in dental school, one of the most prestigious, and we both respect the profession and the rigors of dental school, especially if one is to aim to specialize afterwards (boards score and research would be important on top of the classes). The great amount of studying has compromised the time we get to spend with each other. However, in one of our discussions from the past, 'we' both agreed even students from top dental school didnt or probably wouldnt get into medical school (now this is coming from a dental and medical student who respect each other and the respective professions immensely).

Like I said, I respect dentistry and dental students. However, I felt the need to throw down some facts according to claims made by GavinC.

[shrug]

I freely admit that I'm only one example, and may not be representative of the whole; but I'd put my undergrad transcript up against the average of the med school matriculants from my class, for any sum they choose. I switched from med to dent my junior year of college, and the decision was made despite my confidence of med school admission, not from fear of the opposite.

Aye.

Opinions are a joy to read (and a joy to get heated up about, at times), but when posts are directly insulting and demeaning, then it's time to close it down. Amit1's post was downright ridiculous.

Dental medicine is grouped into the same category as podiatry and optometry. To suggest dental school is anywhere as challenging as an MD/DO is just an attempt to make yourself feel better. Please quit bull****ting everyone into thinking you have accomplished just as much as an MD or DO student.

Why the dental students even posted here I have no idea. It would be like a pod or OD student coming in and saying their program is just as difficult/strenuous/whatever as the MD/DO programs.

Is this a slam? No, but I'm sure the dental guys will take it as one. Is this reality? Yes, and reality is cruel sometimes.

I don't know why pre-med students, such as yourself, post here either. Good question.

I personally browse this forum quite a bit because ALL of our instructors are from medical schools around the country. I often find some good insight into the various programs and their instrctors in this forum.

Ok, due to popular demand, I'm going to have to close this thread. If you want to start a new thread about this topic, that is fine, just please keep it civil. We will all be colleagues someday and I don't see the point in arguing in this forum. As a side note, without a dentist's help, I would still have daily headaches from TMJ, which numerous physicians missed. So say what you will about whether or not dentists are stupid, but don't forget, some physicians are, too.
