I just saw that the waitlist letter wasn't certified. Does that mean the only certified letters are acceptances? If so I'll know not to go down to my mailbox if the doorbell doesn't ring.

Hi, I'm out of the country right now and I know I received a letter today, but I don't know what it says. It's regular sized, (so it's not an acceptance, right?). Anyone who has received an acceptance, waitlist or rejection, can you please tell me what they looked like? Certified or not, big packet or just a letter? Thanks!!!!

Acceptances come in a big manila envelope and it was sent through certified mail. Best of luck to ya!

My mailman just came, nothing certified. He hasn't finished putting the mail in the boxes yet so I wont know anything until ~1:00. The worst thing is that if you get waitlisted you wont know where you are until Monday. I guess that's actually the second worse thing.

Hey Hey add me to the pile of alternates. If anyone got accepted so far..congratulations!!! Thats so great.

Oh sad! Sorry to hear that Steiner. I was really rooting for you. Thats a big 👎 in my book.

okay, confused agian...if i still haven't heard anything at all, I assume im waitlisted??? but i thought there was a waitlist letter! i interviewed in november, so i can't imagine they haven't gone over my file....

yeah, and sorry steiner!! this process SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!! screw it im going to grenada....😡

You all need to seriously reconsider attending UNSOM. I'm not going into details, but you may seriously regret attending here, and end up transferring like I did because it was sooo bad... and with UMC in financial trouble, I'd say all bets are off for optional rotations in vegas 4th year if you're hoping to stay there.

Sad but true-- if you want to be a GOOD doctor, go to a school with a curriculum that has changed with the times- you don't want to have to learn everything for step I in 6 weeks at the end of 2nd year. think about it

pm me for details

Lame.

Why didn't you challenge ANY ONE of the points that I made in the other UNSOM thread? Simple: you are just trying to rile eveyone up around here and in the process you have succeeded in making yourself look like a bitter @ss. If you hated the traditional curriculum so much then why did you even apply here (or matriculate and attend, as you want us to believe)? And since when did a med school curriculum dictate what type of doctor you will be? Last time I checked it was called personal work ethic and the type of training that you get during residency. Your posts smack of naiveity (sp).

BTW, I learned everything I needed to know for step 1 in 3 weeks.

Does anyone here actually know how many students are placed on the waitlist? Also, does anyone know how likely it is for students on the waitlist to get accepted?

anyone still waiting on unsom...or am i the only one? another round should go out today, right??? not that im harboring a whole lot of hope at this point...my enthusiasm for this process has waned considerably over the last few months...not to be a pessimistic kill joy, but that's pretty much where im at...oh well 🙁

if anymore of you are holding your breath for this last set of letters, holla, holla back!! misery (that's me) does so love company 😉

You're not alone! I'm still waiting. I'm OOS, like you right? At least we're not rejected yet. I think I'll probably end up on some kind of OOS waitlist which probably won't move very much. (I guess I'm turning a bit cynical as well)
Wait and see I guess. I'm in MT so hopefull I'll hear something by Wed. or Thurs.

yeah, im in idaho...my mail will probably get here about the same time...

here's hoping:luck: !!

Yeah, I from Idaho also. I pretty much lost hope on UNSOM after not getting a letter after March 15. I will almost bet that I end up with a rejection or waitlist letter this week. It is almost guaranteed that if you end up on the OOS waitlist your out of luck. Hopefully, one of get in so at least one of us can say we did all this waiting for nothing!!! When did you guys interview??? What are your stats?? A little bit about me is I have a MPH with a 4.0 gGPA and a BS Microbiology with a 3.75 uGPA and a 27 MCAT (sucks I know!!).

well, nothing in the mail today (guess i shouldnt expect the letter to teleport here...idaho mail especially...probably wont be till friday)

my stats aren't all that super...30mcat, 3.9 for two years of pre-med post bac studies, but a really rough undergrad gpa, like 3.4-ish (i wasnt the most focused of student back in the day)

yeah, im assuming if they wanted me they would have figured that out by now! 🙂 im hoping for a miracle in the form of everyone already offered acceptances getting far better offers and going elsewhere...hee hee...yes, its come to that....

Nothing for me today either. I just wish that I heard something from these guys so I can start preparing to reapply for the next year. I made the critical mistake of only accepting interviews from three schools... looks like I am going to pay for that with an extra year of waiting. Unfortunately, Idaho has no medical school and we are contracted for spots in two of the most competitive state schools in the country... Utah and Washington. Waiting for this Nevada letter is pathetic and depressing because I pretty much know that I am out of luck. Does anyone have anything to fall back on if this nevada thing does not pan out, or are you guys in the same situation I am?

I'm in the same boat as the rest of you. I'm an Idaho resident and interviewed in early January and have yet to hear back. Today I called Cathy and she said that I should expect a letter in the next day or two. So, probably tomorrow. good luck

I have one rejection (uofw), 4 alternates lists, and then Nevada...which is looking pretty hopeless at this point.....Think I'm SOL for this cycle....i dont even want to think about reapplying....depressing!!!!!! I could apply to bartending school instead....there definatley would be fewer essays...plus, it would complement the mild alcoholism ive developed as a result of this whole application process! 😉

its official...i have a Plan B.

I don't have the energy to go through this entire thread and look - but have any OOS applicants from this thread gotten an acceptance yet?

The accepted students have been e-mailed as a group as few times and I counted 57 e-mail addresses (I was bored 😳 ) Unless something has changed, our entering class is supposed to be 62 students. Maybe there are five spots left (for OOS students? I don't know).

Just a thought.

BTW - this is "orima". I wanted to try to stay semi-anonymous, but I've decided it doesn't bother me anymore.

Oxeye, thanks you for at least some hope. I am pretty sure this admissions cycle is reserved pretty much for OOS people. I think the in-state applicants were given some kind of notification during the first three rounds (waitlist, accepted, or rejected). U of W also sent me a rejection letter promptly after the interview in March... I had no chance. LeikiLaniAhAh, do not into complete depression yet... you at least are on 4 waitlists. Seems like you still have a decent shot. Unless an absolute miracle occurs and I get an acceptance letter from UNSOM, I will have to go through this hell again starting in about a month. I felt like my interview went really well at UNSOM in November but I know my MCAT is low at 27 which is most likely why I am sitting here right now writing this. Next cycle, I will be applying to plenty of DO's... I'm too old for this. Hopefully we find something out tomorrow!

That is funny you mention this. I counted the same number of e-mail addresses and wondered why the number wasn't 62. I imagine that this bodes well for some of you OOSer's that are anxiously awaiting. I will definitely be attending UNSOM and I really hope you guys get in! I wish all of you waiting the best of luck!

Side note-Orima, have you gotten your financial aid package yet?

Side note-Orima, have you gotten your financial aid package yet?

You can call me oxeye now. 🙂 No financial aid package yet. I e-mailed Renee a couple weeks ago when I got a postcard in the mail saying that I wouldn't get aid because I'm "not admitted to a graduate program". She said that was a mistake. She said they were going to start packaging later that week so hopefully we'll get something soon.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who counted the e-mail addresses! 😉

Sorry about using the wrong screen name; my bad 🙂 . I, too, got the same financial aid letter telling me I wasn't admitted. I must admit I was a little taken aback at first and semi-freaked out, but once I called the financial aid office they told me it was a mistake. Following this was a giant sigh of relief.

wow...there's one small shiny little sliver of hope....5 more spots? ...i hope i hope i hope i hope......please for the love of all things holy and un, send me some good news!!!!!!!!!!

here's hoping my standard daily cursing of the mailbox can tomorrow be explitives of joy...not that my neighbors probably care one way or another...actually, they'll probably appreciate it less, becasue it will be louder and accompanied by lot of jumping up and down and running around in circles like an idiot...

But how do you know its supposed to be 62 exactly? Are they not flexible in the slightest? couldn't it end up being just 57, or 66 or something, by chance? (I'm grasping, I know)

The class size has been 52 for a long time. Last year they increased it to 57. On the website they say that this year it will be 62 (http://www.unr.edu/med/dept/asa/prospective_applicants/index_proapp.htm). It doesn't seem like they are very flexible about the number of students.

Good luck. :luck:

nothing in the mail for me today...maybe tomorrow. did anyone else get anything today?

nothing for me....dang it!😡

my mail gets here in approximately 3.5 hrs...

still nothing... thinking about calling them... i'm just hoping that the certified mail takes a little longer than normal and my acceptance is on its way. definitely tired of waiting

Jeez!!! What the heck? I thought someone called just a few days ago and was told to expect something "in a few days" what gives?....if you call, please let us know what you find out..

i just called and whoever answered the phone connected me to a line rang for several minutes, but it never went to a voicemail...must be lunch time. guess ill try later

certified mail shouldnt take longer.

I got a letter. Waitlist. Oh well, I have better offers on the table, UNSOM is just so cheap. Hope you all get in. Good luck.:luck:

DrMontana, so sorry about the waitlist. Would you mind letting us know when your letter was postmarked? Thanks a lot for your help.

Just got my letter.... waitlisted.😡 WTF took so long. My letter was postmarked on April 16 for those wondering. Anyway I am going to start preparing my applications for next year which is not going to include UNSOM because I just can not deal with this wait again!! To all those who are still waiting... the best of luck, I'm rooting for you guys!!! Taking a year off will not be such a bad thing....

well, still nothing. it is weird that it would take so long considering it only has to go from Reno to Boise. this sucks, now i have to wait till monday. or...maybe i should just drive down to reno and see what the deal is 😉

rejected. lovely. bartending school it is.

Leiki, I'm really sorry to hear that. Apparently my letter was sent to my school address so I have to wait till Thursday (when I get back there) to open it. But... it is a thin letter, non-certified, so either a rejection or waitlist. Pretty frustrating, I guess they had to wait 16 weeks after my interview to tell me... Good luck with everything

Sorry everyone about the bad news!!!! 🙁 It is unbelievable that UNSOM took 6 months to tell we were rejected or waitlisted. The out-of-state waitlist at UNSOM is as good as being rejected, just more drawn out. I mean is it too much to ask them to get there stuff together and let us know before the summer is about to begin. It is absolutely rediculous!!!😡

Hey guys, I have a question concerning UNSOM's preference to in-state residents. I've lived in Nevada pretty much all my life except for my attendance at ASU as an Arizona resident. I still plan to settle in Las Vegas after all my schooling. Would it still hurt my chances applying as out-of-state or should I wait to regain my Nevada residency?

Your best bet probably is to call and ask. As far as I know an Arizona resident wouldn't normally have a chance at all since the OOS applicants they do accept come from western states without a medical school. But I wonder if you would be given consideration simply because you lived in NV for so long. Living most of your life in NV makes you more of a resident than me. I lived in CA for 19 years and have only lived in NV for 4.5.

I'd just call. The people in the admissions office are really nice. 🙂

Thanks a lot for the advice. I should have just done that first...😳

I just got a call Tuesday that I have been accepted into UNSOM off the waitlist. I am so excited, and I still can't believe that it really happened. Is anyone else as elated as me to be attending UNSOM in the Fall.

Congratulations! I look forward to having you as a classmate in August.

Just curious if anyone has an opinion on this... what are the chances at UNSOM with MCAT of 33 (12 V, 11P, 10B, Writ R) and Biomedical engineering from USC (Los Angeles) with mixed overall GPA (Last 3 yrs, 3.4; Overall 3.2; Freshman yr, 2.6)
and BCPM GPA (Last 3 yrs, 3.3, Overall 3.1, Freshman 2.2)

You don't have to talk about your scores, just how competitive you think this person would be. Nevada resident, by the way.

From my experiences, I'd say not good, but I think I'm a special case. Something in my application got me flagged and rejected three years in a row. But it does seem like, overall, they consider GPA much more important than MCAT score.
