AOA also means Alpha Omega Alpha, as in the most prestigious medical honorary. From what I hear it's basically equivalent Phi Beta Kappa for medicine.

Its an honors society for medical students/residents. I think they give it out to the top 10% of students. Its supposedly a big deal for gaining prestigious residencies.

for schools like ucla and usc that are pass/fail, how does one get into Alpha Omega Alpha? do they record how high your pass was or something...??

at most pass/fail schools, your grades are still recorded. Those are used for AOA. AOA though, as I understand it, is a mixture of your grades and write-ups from your profressors.
