I already tried searching all over google, SDN, and College Confidential but didn't find much info to help me out. However, if this is a repeat question, I apologize and would appreciate if you would direct me to the proper page.

So I'm currently a junior at Rutgers and I came in with 24 AP credits (Chem, Bio, Calc I, English) and took all 24 of dem babies. I didn't regret it at all, since I've taken all the upper level classes instead (Genetics, Biochem, Systems Phys, Anatomy, Calc II, Expos II) but I realized I haven't taken any upper-level inorganic chem classes (nor do I want to... at all. But I probably should).

The advisors at the Health Prof Office at RU are completely useless and I tried emailing admissions at UMDNJ about whether I need to take extra inorganic chem classes but they gave me a vague, unuseful response.

I'm considering taking Analytical Chemistry (160:251) next semester but I don't know what else to take, or if I even need to subject myself to the torture of inorganic chem in the first place. Other options I guess would be Chemical Bonding (160:361), retake Gen Chem 1 or 2, or just say IDGAF and take my chances with just biochem and orgo to replace it.

Any thoughts, especially RU alum/students?

tldr; What upper level classes do I take to replace AP Chem credits or is Orgo/Biochem enough?

It depends on the school. I think some may take the AP credit, but some others may require an upper level supplementation. I do believe that the general consensus is that AP credits are looked down upon by most med school admissions people (correct me if I'm wrong).

I would recommend calling the offices of the schools you're applying to and asking, because e-mails always produce vague answers.

Do not rely on your AP Chem credits only when applying. While some schools do accept AP Chem credit, most of those schools expect upper division chemistry courses in exchange.

Does your school offer any other inorganic chemistry courses besides Analytical or Physical? Can you retake introductory inorganic chemistry at your school, even if you have AP Credit? If you can retake the intro, definitely do that. It will just be an easy A for you. As long as you do well in plenty of other upper division science classes, adcoms should not be questioning your ability to succeed academically.

Do not use biochemistry as a substitute, as some schools require this in addition to the one year of inorganic chemistry.
