Last time I'm posting on this 😛

Right now I'm in AP Bio, AP Physics B, AP US History. Next year I'm taking AP World, AP Euro, AP Calc AB, AP English Lit, AP Chem. I was also considering independently studying AP Macro/Micro Economics, AP Psych, and AP Stats.

Then I figured out schools only accept so much AP credit. So my plan is to just take AP US, AP World, and AP Euro exams and pretty much get all of my history out of the way.

I'm planning to attend WashU (hopefully).

Any opinions on this, or ways to improve it?

Thanks in advance.

Damn dude, I would take it easy your senior year. I'm not sure if you have a senior project/capstone, because i know mine is very time consuming. I'm only taking one AP class along with wr 122 and Bio 121 and a couple of bs electives. Though I am also at a charter school half the time too and we have to do clinicals where we pretty much shadow different medical professions, so that is pretty time consuming too.

Hey, honestly, if you can do em, do em. Only you know what you are capable of. As far as what tests to take, I would def do the History, Calc, and Lit. Basically, if you have to choice, I would test out of non-science classes because taking the entry level science classes is pretty useful especially if you are going to take the MCAT if you decide to do medicine. I think I did around 5 APs my senior year and it honestly wasn't too bad. Plus, if you take a lot, you will hopefully learn some good study skills if you do decide to study for them. (I was just a do the homework and take exams kind of guy.) If you HAD to cut any, the first ones I would cut would def cut the 3 self study ones before any others because taking those classes in college really isn't too bad/boring/busy workish. Good luck.

Yea, well I pretty much screwed around my freshman and sophomore years but I want to get into a good university. I got a bunch of B's in easy classes, but now I'm making all A's in the hardest courses (irony, how I love thee) to make up for it. Although I'm not doing it just to be a ballbuster (except for physics), I'm genuinely interested and love chem bio and anatomy, and history isn't so bad either. So it's not that painful.

And I'll definitely be ready for college, so that's a good thing.

The thing is, each history course is worth like 6 credit hours (18 for all 3), and a lot of schools only accept 15 hours worth of credit (WashU for instance). I'll still take the courses out of personal interest and to challenge myself, but what exams to focus on is a different issue.

My advice is, take all the AP's, you seem like you can handle it. Get 3's, 4's and 5's, and they will be accepted to college.

Colleges might not give you CORE graduation credits (courses you definately have to take in college), but they will give you elective credit, atleast for the history's. Realize that unless your prospective college requires all undergrads to take AP Euro, AP USH, and AP World, its pointless to take all 3, when only 1 is most likely going to count toward a history credit.

If i were you its great your taking USH now, the only change i would make is to pick either AP World or AP Euro for next year.

Hmm, I'd drop AP World but there's not much in the way of APs to throw in its spot. AP Stats, AP Psych, and AP Physics C (can go kill itself). Although AP Stats may be decent.

I'll have to see.

I know at OSU we only need 10 credit hours of history, so you might want to check the school and see what all you need.

Last year I took AP US History and AP Psych and this year I'm taking AP Literature, Spanish, Calculus AB, Physics, American Government and Comparative Government. I found that it's really not as bad as everyone tries to make it sound. I think if you are willing to work, you should take them. Even if you don't end up taking the AP tests because your college doesn't take credit, the classes are usually better overall.

I would look into this as well.

It varies so much as you go school to school.

Also (and this is unrelated), you do know that at some med schools you can use your AP credit.

Yea taking the courses isn't a problem. I'm in AP Biology, AP US, Adv. Chem, and AP Physics B all in the same semester right now. I'm definitely going to take the courses, it's just the matter of which AP exams I should take to try to test out of.

Two that I would suggest not testing out of, if you are going to be a science major would be bio, chem and probably not physics then.

Take the ones that interest you, and you can always take them in college again. But with science take the chem so you can go into organic chem and p chem in college, my sister did that and shes got a 3.99 gpa (Dumb Jerk) and she actually likes the classes. Also one tip my friends dad told me (does interviews for yale so I listend) Colleges are looking for one tracked people instead of well rounded now adays so Id take the science seriosly and not worry about political stuff and worldly issues)

Good luck

Take AP Chem. Gen Chem is a waste of time. Also try to AP out of all those general college requirements like English, Humanities, etc., so that you can't start working on your major. Also, you may want to consider going to a state school instead. I was accepted to several private schools but ended up going to a state school because the private schools capped my AP credits at 15 (and were going to bleed me for tuition) while the state school gave me all 60 allowing me to double major and graduate early.

For me, AP Stat is mind-numbingly boring. We have been learning the same exact pq/n stuff in different forms for about two months. I really think my teacher is a good teacher, yet I feel like skipping that hour every day.

Although it's great that you are thinking of taking a wide variety of AP's next year - I think that 5 is too much. I'm taking 3 AP's my senior year and I still have had time for a social life and activities and just enjoying myself in general. I know that you're concerned about getting into a good college, but honestly think about how much work you can take on and how it will influence other aspects of your life.

That being said...if you do really take 5 AP's, best of luck!

For the love of Pete, do not take the AP test for any of the sciences if you are going to major in it! I've seen too many people get credit (either AP or EM) for chemistry and go on to Organic chemistry only to end up retaking it again the next quarter.

If I were you, I would test out of the humanities to just get them out of the way. There are other classes you can take that are easy in college you can use to sort of balance the harder science/math courses you'll be taking.

But I will add that some schools, I know mine for sure, will only accept some credit even if you scored a five on the exam. I.e. My school grants credit for 2 out of the 3 general chemistry for scores of 5's, only one of the two general biology for a 4, one of the two required by all students english courses for a 5. So don't rely purely on getting a good AP exam to get all your credit out of the way.

I ended up testing out of a lot of GEs in Humanities/Social Sciences and now am taking humanities anyways because of a possible non-science minor and simply because I enjoy taking them to balance out my science heavy course load.

All those AP credits allowed me sign up for classes ahead of a lot of my freshman class though ( <------ BEST THING EVER.)
