Why don't the podiatry board exams have numerical scores, but rather a simple pass/no pass? The prior works quite well with the USMLE, and I would imagine the scores can give a better idea of competitiveness between students as well as make the APMLE an actual point of reference rather than a hurdle that students need to jump over. I don't feel that GPA or class rank (essentially the same thing) should hold all the weight (granted, other factors play a role). Perhaps the limited residencies and lack of separate specialties like in medical school deem score variability as unnecessary, yet would it be a good idea?

Thanks for the input. On a somewhat similar topic, I have heard from many students and faculty that the USMLE is head and shoulders above the APMLE in terms of being a 'well written' test. Are there talks of reform at all, or is the majority satisfied?

I can't defend the APMLE. It's terribly written. Some questions did not have right answers. Some questions ask school specific terminology (ex. seay something only NYCPM students are taught the other 8 schools have never heard of/seen the terminology).

Yeah, that wasn't a fun experience. I realize those questions had to have been thrown out but still, board questions without correct answers? Hmm.

I wasted a ton of time on an LEA question... sitting there pondering myself why I had never heard of that structure before. I eventually got really frustrated, clicked "C" and moved on. Only to look it up later and find no literature on it. I then asked my professor who adamantly stated the structure did not exist. He was quite angry we were asked those types of questions.

I would say what the "structure" was but it is against the TOS and the APMLE form we signed to not talk about specifics.
