I apologize if this thread is a repeat of ones past, but my search didn't work...

I'm a current M3 trying to apply for away/audition rotations during 4th year. Many programs I've looked at say that visiting students must fit into their rotation schedule for medical students, but my school's schedule doesn't fit many other institution's. Anyone know if it's possible to work around this? Talking directly with the anesthesia department, maybe? Any other suggestions? Thanks.

My buddy had a problem like this and got around it by contacting the PD at the schools he wanted to rotate at. You'll need to work it out with the school and your home institution, maybe pick up a couple of ER shifts for credit to make the timing work (if you have to miss part of a rotation). I'd wait a few days though, as it's pretty hectic right now with rank lists.

yes, i wouldnt attempt to call programs until AFTER feb 23. they are busy as heck and will probably be annoyed this early.

secondly, i had this same problem....my schools schedule was waaaaaaaaay of. unfortunately, you usually have to work with the 'away' school and conform to their schedule (which means you should contact various schools and see who is flexible). another option, which I did was.....schedule a rotation right around the time you have xmas break at your school. i say this because most away schools start their rotations on the first of the month. if you start your rotation say december 1, you will be expected to work until dec 30. usually from dec 16-jan 7 is 'xmas break". so this is one way to get around your own school's schedule.
