PhD/PsyD APPIC Internship Interview Invitation Thread (2019)

Has anyone else had the experience of getting an interview invite with one date only, telling the site you are unable to make that date due to a conflict with a prior commitment, and the site essentially telling you that not being able to attend means you will be rejected unless you can somehow make it work (i.e., no offer of alternative dates, phone, skype)? I get that sites have a bunch of interviewees, but I couldn't help but feel really bummed. We have so little control over this whole process -- it just sucks to have to lose out on a chance to interview at a site I'm interested in due to extenuating circumstances.

What site told you this? That seems awfully unfair...

I had sites whose interviews conflicted with other sites and usually when I told them that they conflicted they were understanding and offered other dates or phone interviews at the least...

This might be overly paranoid, but I don't want to say in case it's possible that any individuals from sites read these forums, haha. Happy to PM you if you are interested, though. I also had another site that was completely understanding and offered me another date, so I wasn't anticipating that response at all.

Has anyone heard back from Yale Child Study Center for the Autism track? I've seen Peds and Early Childhood, but nothing from Autism and/or Trauma.

I applied to the autism track and haven't heard anything yet either. It looked like in previous years that at least the trauma track (and possibly autism too) were notified at later dates than pediatric and early childhood, so I'm hoping that's what's happening and we hear soon!

I had a similar situation. They offfered 2 dates (both of which I have other interviews scheduled for). They offered phone and video conferencing interviews in the email. When I replied stating that I unfortunately would not be able to attend an in person interview but would like to schedule a phone interview, they responded stating that they would have to consider it after they’ve interviewed everyone else. Not too sure where to take it from there.

So I know last year, the people on this thread talked a lot about their #wandsite using a phrase from Harry Potter.

Coincidentally (well not really, I love harry potter a lot), I received a sorting hat bracelet for Hanukkah last week. I wore the bracelet today and thought about how just like Hogwarts students are "sorted" into houses, I'll be sorted into an internship that will provide me the training experience I need! Just like some students are originally surprised or disappointed by their houses, but grow to realize it's the best place for them to learn and grow..that is the attitude I will take for the internship process!

Yes, I received an invitation from them via email yesterday, however it was sent to my spam and I didn't initially see it! The training director actually reached out to me today to confirm that I received the email and to schedule an interview.

It looks like the 3 out of their 5 interns were clinical psychs last year... their email says they ranked us by intervention types/hours, numbers of reports written, etc. So, speaking as a school psych, it makes sense that clinical psychs would be ranked above me and my classmates. A little confusing for a school psych site to make decisions that way, but hey, to each their own I suppose.

Ah I see, makes sense! Still disappointing though! Man, I'm really rooting for all us school psych people. I'd love to meet one of y'all at an interview!

Well, as a school psych person, that’s a little frustrating- but then I realize I got interviews at some of the top training centers for my clinical interests, and then the frustration goes away....somewhat lol.
