I'm staying sane by distracting with data cleaning for my dissertation...which is somehow less painful than checking my email every 15 minutes.

We just got an emergency alert that an armed robbery with handguns happened in student housing, so now I took all my nervous energy and am applying it to worrying about that! Yay???

Last year, someone in my school got matched, and got a call a few days later saying “due to budget issues, we are not taking interns for the next year”

so this student actually flew to the interview, paid for hotel, uber, etc....then matched to the site. She did not get reimbursed by the site. A big “eff you” basically lol

so it could be worse. A lot worse 🙁

Oh update!!
The email from Momentous said they talked to APPIC and encouraged applicants to email them to ask for a refund or to use the money to apply to another site...at least thats something!

i’m not holding my breath for APPIC actually being nice about it, but it’s worth a shot.

Yes my training director called APPIC, and they somehow sorted it out, and they got another site that they ranked (I assume maybe this site was gonna go to round 2, so happy ending for all!)

I got a rejection from Adult Track at UChicago. For the people who were successfully invited, did you lean more heavily towards research or clinical? I have really strong clinical experience in a PhD program but have been a very unproductive lab. Feeling super nervous about other sites now...

LMAO...but Im sorry to hear that. That actually happend recently. Our dog has NEVER done that, but we moved to this new high rise downtown...she is scared and just trying to get her bearings. We left her in the room while we went out and came back to crap all over the bed and pillows and blankets.

We need a new thread to help with the depressive thoughts related to rejection. 😛

This used to be pretty rare, anecdotally, it does appear to be happening more often. This increase in canceled interviews appear to coincide with the number of spots outpacing number of applicants. I'd be interested to hear from other faculty if this has been happening somewhat more often in the past few years.

I know a number of people who have canceled interviews in the last 2-3 years because they were offered more interviews than they could logistically or financially manage to attend. For example, someone I know accepted a Wednesday interview in California and canceled it when they were offered Monday and Thursday interviews in New York that same week. Someone else I know had 19 interview offers and canceled about 5 of them when they realized how expensive that much traveling would be.

My research is in women's health & a lot of my clinical experience is in bipolar disorders, so I tried to pitch to their eating disorders & SMI rotations. But who knows... applications are so complicated! And it doesn't reflect interview prospects for other side - it is still early!

Research. From what I understand, they are pretty heavily focused on research even though it doesn't come across that way in their brochure. Being in an unproductive lab really sucks, I am sorry.

The organizer that sent it out made it sound like these were the only two dates, and that they would get back with a confirmation of which date I picked once everyone responded... so I'm guessing it was an all at once thing. And today was their notification deadline.
