Advice for interview conflict needed!

I scheduled an interview early last week for January 8. However yesterday I received an invite from another site for a mandatory program orientation at the exact same time. I emailed that site and explained I have a interview scheduled for that time. They replied in another mass email saying " If possible, please make every attempt to make it to this session so that you have all the information needed prior to your interviews. However, if unable to attend, we are currently working to find an alternative for these applicants".

I'm not sure what to do. I feel like it would be unprofessional for me to ask the first site to change my interview time but I also don't want to miss out on the second site.

What should I do? Or should I wait a few days to see if they come up with an alternative?

Is this for Kern? I got the vibe from that email that they are willing to be flexible. I would wait to see if they offer an alternative personally!

You’ll have to reach out to them. According to their website, even before COVID, they don’t extend offers to interview (this was to reduce the burden of traveling for applicants). You’ll have to contact them and they’ll let you know if you’re still being considered. I reached out last week and at the time they had a few spots available on the 8th and only one spot left on the 15th.
Thanks!

Have folks received rejections from Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health? I know that offers for my track went out forever ago, but I'm still waiting... anyone else still in limbo with this site? 🌸
Yes, I'm still waiting to hear from the Child and Adolescent Track. Their brochure does say a 12/31 final notification date...so late 🙁

Sounds like this is against APPIC rules. They should be reaching out to applicants, not the other way around.
I thought it was odd, too, that interviews don’t seem required. I think it’s just to take the burden off of travel cost usually, which I’m sure was appreciated in previous years! My understanding is you could still rank them and they might still rank you even if you don’t interview.

That is a tough situation! I have been so anxious each time a conflict came up. In my experience so far sites have been relatively flexible, and it sounds from their follow-up email that they know that some will not be able to make the orientation. I would wait to hear if the second site finds an alternative as they are already trying to work through that!

hi everyone. I know that some have received invitations to interview with Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care in Newark- has anyone received a rejection yet? This is the laaast site I'm waiting to hear from, so even though I know their notification date isn't until Friday I am anxious to be done with this phase of the process!

Hi! Did people interviewing at Philly VA tomorrow receive the calendar invites for interviews? They were alluded to in an email but I have not received any!

I know that people have been talking about Georgia State University and them sending out notices...but has anyone heard from Georgia Tech University? Their deadline was yesterday and I haven't received anything yet?

Forgive me if this is a silly question, but how is everyone preparing for interviews??? My first is Friday and I'm just talking to myself pretending to answer questions (and internally cringing)
Our faculty offer to do mock interviews with us so I'm doing that. Also going through common interview questions and trying to formulate answers to them. And brushing up on common differential diagnoses so I'm ready for any vignettes!

I'm doing mock interviews, reviewing the APAGS internship workbook, and reviewing notes from prior year interns from my program. Also reviewing all of the materials about the specific site that are available and all of my application materials. Practicing in the space I will be interviewing in is also something I'm doing. This includes having backup lighting and wifi readily available (and practicing the switch) in case there is some weird issue.

Is anyone aware of the average percentage of interviews? Like if someone applies to 10 sites and gets 5, is that 50% rate average or less/more? I'm curious, but I cannot find any solid data.

I think that would depend on a lot of factors such as where you applied. 50% is very solid though. For example some factors that you may not even have thought of could have a big influence. I got invites to about 70% of the sites I applied to in state, but only 10% out of state. Familiarity of sites with your school and practicum experiences I’m sure must have a big influence.
