So, I just got a rejection from UofC stating that they needed to be very selective this year since they are getting over 6000 applications. I checked and last year they had a little under 3000. That makes competition pretty stiff. What do you all think?

I am going to assume UofC is Chicago-Pritzker, if so, they actually had 5500 applicants last year, a little under 3000 send in the secondary though. So 5500 to 6000+ is a modest increase in applicants.

If UofC is not Pritzker, then its your fault for not specifying 😛

There is a rise in applicants the past couple years and this year appears to be continuing the trend.

yes I meant Pritzker. Ok, so your explanation makes a lot of sense. I didn't think that the number of applicants would double. I got a double whammy though by getting NU and UofC a day apart. Oh well.

pritzker pisses me off. theyve accepted no one from my ugrad school for three years running, even though it puts out 400+ applicants a year. does uofc hate on the southern california for a reason? i had several points on their mcat and gpa averages, was later accepted to a school ranked well above it, and yet got shot down almost immediately post secondary. so really im hurt they wouldnt massage my ego. but still....they do have a kickass letterhead

Maybe it's because of your sense of entitlement, and they'd rather have students more interested in patients than their own careers.

I agree....we try to keep the arrogant coasties out of the midwest.

Yowzer. That's a rough comment...
It's okay though, although I love SoCal I'm from Texas...which the midwest can't possibly argue it's better than 😀

thanks, guy. i will admit that i have a raging sense of entitlement but am not aware that it is expressed in my post. i was under the impression that this entire board was devoted to musings about one's career (read: getting into medschool) and so i apologize for not conveying my interest in patient care more completely in a thread called "applicant numbers." where exactly does reading this thread fit into your interest in patient care? do you find your commitment to bemoaning publicly other people's sense of entitlement detracts from your own extensive interest in patient care?

The problem wasn't the talking numbers, it was more that this is a translation of your post: "I'm pissed I didn't get into Chicago. It's a lesser school than the one(s) I got into, so I deserved to get in. It must be that they hate my undergrad school."

well i appreciate the asinine translation of my post. perhaps i should clerify and then maybe you could comment on the substance of it?

noone from ucsd has gotten into u of c for three years running. there are 400+ applicants from ucsd, acceptances from hopkins, harvard, northwestern, and several other bigshot schools all three years, yet none from u of c. i can guess that there are more than 30 applicants from ucsd competitive at u of c (myself included in this year's tally) per year that are interested in it, dont get in. what gives?

ive got 76 other posts on the site that maybe you could also translate in a meanspirited and inaccurate way for me if, you know, youve got the time...

Pritzker values its essays -- maybe it's 'cause y'all assume that you don't need to try hard on the essays because your stats make you 1337 d00dz?

hehe, what is it with those schools? Someone else on SDN got NU and UofC on the same day. i got rejected from both 3 days apart....they must work together, doubling our pain in a very short time period🙂

And now that your statement is made, perhaps you could step down from your pedestle-on-high. Some other self-drunk person on SDN needs it.
