With a single MCAT of 510 or better you are candidate for any school in the country.
With 500 you can get in somewhere.
In other words, it's not when you take it, but how well you do on it that will be important.
Don't take the MCAT until you are going to get a score consistent with success (whatever that means to you).

I say study your butt off to take the MCAT next spring (1), rock the thing, like 515+ (2), and then sit back and enjoy the bloodbath that will ensue as the best schools in the country fight over your services (3)

Obviously not an adcom, but I just finished up my junior year and took the MCAT two months ago while also taking phys2. It worked out very well. I just wouldn't take it if you haven't finished biochem.
IMHO regardless of a gap year you should try to take it this spring and get it over with!

Eh n=1 but I took a June MCAT and took biochem during the winter semester. I ended up doing well. I wouldn't worry about physics 2. Physics really isn't a strong emphasis anymore, and you will probably only see a handful of questions on physics material in general. Personally I think the physics stuff is one of the few things you could teach yourself and be totally fine on test day. Biochem, Ochem, molecular biology, and physio are much more important and will make up the bulk of science questions.

@iluvbeingpremed The year-long Biochemistry sequence is condensed into a one-semester course at my UG, which I will have completed by the end of this upcoming fall term. Just out of curiosity, what was your study schedule like? I had originally planned on strictly following SN2ed's schedule.

Had you taken physiology prior to your exam date? I could also take physiology concurrently with physics 2 in the winter if I decide to take MCAT exam in Late May/early June--it will either be that or Cell Biology. Too much?

So I did Altius. I thought it was a good program with both pros and cons. I basically started the program last October, which I thought helped me a ton. That way I only had to study 1-2 hours a day (lite studying) until the end of the year, before ramping it up in the new year. The way Altius is set up you do a ton, and I mean a ton, of practice questions and passages. For me that was really helpful because I didn't do a lot of content review I would just review the content of the questions I did and then focus on the questions I got wrong. During winter semester I would do about 20 hours a week on top of classes and then a month before my test date I ramped it up and studied every day and took a full length twice a week. If you want more specifics then feel free to PM me and I could share my experience with Altius, the test, studying, etc.
I also disagree with the above, I still haven't taken cell bio yet and did totally fine. I think that physio would be more beneficial, and at BYU is easier (IMO) than cell bio from what I've heard. It could be better to do physio concurrently with physics 2, which isn't too difficult but is time consuming. This is all just my preference though.
